Finally watched Ben Hur. Aggressively mediocre overall that has a decent amount of charm as a product of its time, first as a novel and second as a closing piece of golden age Hollywood. Despite Jesus being a plot relevant character it's less Christian than a Larry Boy episode

At the very least, @Pontifex needs to specify which “fundamental elements of the Church” the SSPX allegedly “refuses to accept” and which “points” of Vatican II they are required to accept that they currently don’t.

Not my circus, not my monkeys, but worth pointing out that the principle of non-contradiction applies here:
If the SSPX holds to what the Church taught BEFORE Vatican II, and Leo says they can't be accepted because of what Vatican II taught, then there is mutual exclusivity between what Catholicism WAS and what Catholicism IS.
In other words: he is admitting, out loud, that they are different religions.

I'm over halfway through this debate. I try my best to stay open-minded and unbiased, but this was just brutal. Hanson had to be constantly redirected during cross-examination, which ate up a significant amount of Ethan's time.
The only real “zinger” Hanson landed was getting Ethan to admit he had only read 30% of the Book of Mormon. Even that fell flat, however, because it was an ad hominem attack that failed to address the substance of Ethan’s case.
Hanson’s first cross-examination was embarrassing to watch.
On a side note, isn’t it odd how there always seems to be some kind of audio or connection issue whenever Mormons debate Catholics? I won’t read anything into it, but it strikes me as very strange.

UPDATE: Top LDS ‘theologian’ Blake Ostler has backed out of a discussion with me on Jacob Hansen’s channel about whether the Book of Mormon is more consistent with classical theism or ‘Hansen-Ostlerism.’ He provided two pretexts for this decision:
(1) He does not consider me qualified to discuss “Book of Mormon theology” (famously a brainy field) with a towering intellect such as himself.
(2) He does not think it is possible for him to defend the thesis without presupposing univocity with later revelations claimed by Smith. A telling admission to be sure.
Perhaps one day, with enough study and effort, I will be deemed worthy of the vaunted heights of speaking with this Utah attorney that does amateur philosophy on the side.
