@LinkofSunshine Lofton hit .310 with 54 stolen bases. Back then getting on base for power hitters was the goal. Not everyone to be a power hitter

The Indians used to bat their 3 worst hitters by wRC+ 1-2-3 in the order for the entire season lol The reason they batted Vizquel 2nd was that he was a good bunter This is how bad the state of baseball was until a few years ago

@Sw0lleyMammoth @deeptocenter There is no 'actually watching'. No one is in the stadium in a seat with a good angle on every player for most games, and you simply can't judge certain aspects of defense on eye test when watching the game on TV. The broadcast just cannot provide the necessary information.

@deeptocenter I DESPISE advanced defensive statistics. Anyone who actually watches knows Torkelson is elite at scooping balls out of the dirt. He makes good throws to second to turn two, and feeds pitchers covering 1B well. Blows my mind

As someone who is usually in support of advanced statistics, I don’t understand the defensive ones very well. I watch Spencer Torkelson play every day and I’ve never once thought man he’s horrible over there. And yet defensive stats treat him like the worst defensive 1B ever.

@_24kin This happened with him in 2024. The metrics had Wells as the unluckiest hitter in MLB early on, entering June with a sub .600 OPS. He then proceeded to slash .299/.388/.542 for a .930 OPS over the summer until the artery damage in his index finger first popped up in September.

A professional baseball player went on a podcast and said Jose Iglesias should have won NL MVP in 2024

@BurdenBurner I did not say that. It’s what almost every profesional Baseball player thinks.

If 60 home runs, a division title, and elite defense aren't enough to win MVP, what is? For Cal Raleigh, the answer is simple: win a World Series.

My favorite rivalries in baseball aren’t Yankees-Red Sox, dodgers-giants, or cubs-brewers (sorry cardinals) It’s these random, poop vs pee rivalries where fans hurl the most vile insults at each other over their 78-82 win ball clubs over who gets to lose 2 games in the wildcard first. I spend every day arguing with Red Sox fans arguing about World Series wins, playoffs, who will be the best team, etc.. And then there’s an entire side of twitter I never see arguing which team will finish 3rd in the central and which acquisition was better, the 1 year deal to Suarez or the 1 year deal to Ryan O’Hearn😂
Barstool Cincinnati@UCBarstool

I’m going to need the Reds to shut up every analyst and projection this season. Didn’t know a team who underperformed last year and added Eugenio Suarez, Nate Lowe, JJ Bleday, Dane Myers, Caleb Ferguson, Brock Burke, and Pierce Johnson could get worse!

@BillOC714 @RyanGarciaESM @bbqbaseball62 It's also easy to say that Snell and Yamamoto would likely shut the Yankees down. They both got tagged in their last starts against the Yankees respectively btw. We're talking about singular games here. Shit can happen. The way something turned out wasn't always meant to be.

@RyanGarciaESM @bbqbaseball62 Sure, but he’d be facing Yamamoto or Snell both of whom are likely to shut this lineup down. And just as easy to say the Dodgers would feast on the Yankee bullpen I don’t see it. Maybe if absolutely everything went right but that was the Blue Jays run until the end of g7.

@Manach_38 @MattEddyBA No, it wouldn't be the consensus opinion. A large portion of the Yankee fanbase will disregard any statistical argument if it isn't backed up by WS rings. You'll get looked at sideways for saying Aaron Judge is a better player than Jeter.

@MattEddyBA I firmly believe if Lindor was a Yankee it would already be the mainstream view to say he's better than Jeter. Unfortunately he doesn't get nearly the recognition he deserves, and part of that is on Mets fans for spending so long bashing him when he got here.

Everybody knows Francisco Lindor is great. What we don't fully appreciate is his historic status He enters the season with 279 career HR, including 271 while in the lineup at shortstop When he clears 300, he will be the third player EVER to accomplish that HR as SS 👇
