The Taliban has now approved the return of SLAVERY in Afghanistan. We must DEFUND the Taliban. Not only is it counter to U.S. interests and an affront to all military members who served there, but the Taliban continue to slide farther backwards.

Today, on #EducationDay with the Taliban excluding millions of #Afghan girls&women from education, I’m reminded of the impact this has not just on their lives but on the future of the country. All children&youth must be able to access quality schooling & higher education, always.

🚨 URGENT: Save 22-year-old Khadija Ahmadzada from Taliban persecution! Khadija, a brave taekwondo coach from Herat, was arrested around January 10 for secretly teaching girls sports—defying the Taliban's total ban on women's and girls' athletics. She's now detained in Herat prison, reportedly beaten, with her trial imminent (possibly this week). Activists and sources close to her fear an extreme punishment, including death by stoning, under the regime's harsh "morality" laws. The Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue confirmed her arrest and referral to court for violating Sharia rules. UN experts and rights groups are calling for her immediate release. This is part of systematic gender apartheid: no education, no sports, no freedom for Afghan women and girls. Her best chance of survival is global pressure and visibility. Share her name. Today, the Hazara community of the DMV area held a solidarity gathering in response to the recent attack on National Guard members in Washington, D.C. Members of the Hazara community—part of the broader Afghanistan immigrant population in the United States—came together at the site of the attack to express their sympathy and support for the families of the National Guard members who were targeted. During the gathering, community representatives strongly condemned all forms of violence, emphasizing that Hazaras themselves have long been victims of violence and persecution. They reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful coexistence and stressed that violence has no place in any society.
