This is a historic moment for Canadian Parliament. For the first time, an MP presented petition against the genocidal actions of Indian government. @justiceforallcn and @DesjarlaisBlake worked together for 10 months to make it happen. Hope to see bigger actions soon.

Chinese government must free my mom, she is innocent Uyghur. She was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2017, simply in retaliation for my activism in the U.S. She is a kind, hardworking woman with no political ties. She is in Women's Prison in Urumqi. 新疆维吾尔自治区女子监狱

I am an Israeli living in NYC. I lost family on October 7th and have Gazan friends. I am not afraid of the student protestors, even if I deeply disagree with some of their stances. What I’m afraid of is a world that sees thousands of children being blown up and says nothing.

Given their geopolitical orientation and UN votes, it is essentially guaranteed that the US, Germany, France, Australia, India, Japan, and Slovakia will vote against South Africa's ICJ case, or abstain. This means all 8 other members would have to vote for it, which is unlikely.

I have different point of view. Every campaign of the Communist Party of China has a preparatory phase known as "luring the snake out of its hole." A prime example is the anti-rightist movement in 1958 by Chairman Mao. Since 2017, Xi Jinping has been implementing Uyghur concentration camps on a large scale in Xinjiang, but preparations had been underway for at least three years prior. The 2014 violent incident at the Urumqi South Railway Station is considered the beginning of the genocide against the Uyghurs. The Chinese government labeled it a terrorist attack, attributing it to the "East Turkestan Islamic Movement." However, it is widely believed internationally that this organization does not exist, and the Chinese government's accusations against the Uyghurs are considered baseless. After the July 5th incident in Urumqi in 2009, Hu Jintao appointed the relatively moderate Zhang Chunxian as the leader of Xinjiang, renowned for his "soft governance" approach. At the National People's Congress press conference in Beijing in March 2016, Zhang Chunxian mentioned that some people from Xinjiang had joined the extremist group "Islamic State" and that individuals returning from Iraq and Syria to Xinjiang were suspected of plotting terrorist attacks. Now, it appears that Xi Jinping's defamation of the Uyghurs and plans to establish large-scale concentration camps were premeditated. During Zhang Chunxian's tenure from 2012 to 2016, known for his "soft governance" of Xinjiang, the Chinese government significantly relaxed restrictions on Uyghurs applying for passports to travel abroad. In March 2017, at the National People's Congress press conference held in Beijing, Zhang Chunxian hinted at an impending major event in Xinjiang.

Recently, two new articles on Xinjiang claim that Beijing began to detain up to 1 million Uyghurs "since 2014". I find this misleading. While the state developed the re-education camp model from that time, initial numbers were quite small, and re-education was not always conducted in facilities (camps). The mass internments started in 2017. The security environment for Uyghurs deteriorated markedly from 2014/2015, and several emigrated around that time. It is important to understand that the mass internment and police state campaign evolved over the course of several years, and a number of Uyghurs were detained prior to 2017. Even so, the dramatic impact of securitization and re-education on Uyghur society came into full force from late 2016. For the average non-expert reader, marking 2014 as the start of what is now widely known as a campaign of mass internment is unfortunately misleading, especially given that no further explanation or qualification is offered in these articles. theguardian.com/global-develop…

@ErshadMahmud I think more than Kashmir the decision will be important for the Indian Union(not federation) as a whole and rights of states there. August 5 action means that Union Parliament with a simple majority can eradicate a state, divide it into many parts or merge it with other states.

BREAKING: @SenBooker’s speech in New Jersey was just shut down by protestors who interrupted him after a few seconds, demanding a ceasefire in Gaza (Palestine) where a Palestinian child is being killed every 10 minutes. Booker was taken by surprise and had to exit immediately.
