PRO wil van 1 mei een officiële feestdag maken. Klinkt sympathiek: Dag van de Arbeid, vrije dag, solidariteit. Alleen, wat doen mensen op vrije dagen? Winkelen, terrasje pakken, dagje uit. Dus de één krijgt vrij, de ander mag werken. En de ondernemer mag het organiseren én betalen. Inclusief toeslagen, roosters en hogere kosten. De Dag van de Arbeid wordt dan vooral de dag waarop een deel van de arbeid duurder wordt gemaakt voor de rest.

Because the entire concept of the “marketplace of ideas” implies speakers are testing their ideas against one another, not cowered in a protected corner of the internet just repeating the same unchallenged points over and over and over again.
Without any of these ideas making contact with each other, we no longer have a marketplace of ideas, we have a bunch of people sitting in their own corners preaching to their respective choirs, and one of the biggest purposes of “free speech” is completely dead.
