Democrats are trying to buy time on Israel by making Netanyahu the whole issue. It is a way to appease an increasingly radical part of their base without admitting how far that base has moved from even conditional support for the U.S.-Israel alliance.

Hypothetically, if Israel somehow had a "pro-peace" government committed to a 2 state solution, then I think their numbers with Dems could improve. This won't happen anytime soon, but it is possible.

Bibi torched U.S. support for Israel for a generation. Older Republicans and white Evangelicals are the last groups to hold majority favorable views of Israel, according to recent Pew polling, @AndrewSolender and Justin Green write for @axios axios.com/2026/04/18/isr…

This is very true but incomplete. Blaming Bibi for all this disaster is easy but the more difficult reality is that Israel has transformed into an aggressive, warlike ethno-supremacist country, buttressed by religion, which Americans, including many American Jews, simply detest.

Between Trump and Netanyahu they eroded the most important adhesive in the US-Israeli relationship: bipartisanship. And both set out to undermine and ignore anyone in the Jewish community who didn’t hold right-wing views.
