In most cases, each data center is constructing buildings that will enclose up to ten acres' worth of land. Virginia now has about 500 of them, California, 300, and Texas over 250. The data centers use massive amounts of water and electricity, causing both to skyrocket in costs and shortages. They also destroy the living conditions and change the culture of rural communities.
