The most broken things in America: 1. The national debt. 2. The healthcare system. 3. The tax code. 4. K-12 education. 5. Obesity rates. What am i missing?

I’ve long advocated for S.F. to employ more coercive interventions to end public drug use, and this is a meaningful step in the right direction. Embracing zero-tolerance for public drug use citywide means turning off the magnet lax enforcement creates, and providing certainty to drug tourists that they’ll now have three options: 1⃣ Get sober; 2⃣ Get arrested; or 3⃣ Get out. "Both Los Angeles and San Francisco saw violent crime decrease, by 13% and 20%, respectively. In both cities, violent crime was below pre-pandemic levels (by 6% in LA; 35% in SF), with San Francisco experiencing its lowest levels in at least a decade." @PPICNotes @SFDAOffice

What are the trends in #violent and #property #crime in the eight largest cities in #California? Our #CriminalJustice team used monthly crime data from urban police departments to take a look at recent shifts around the state. Check out what they found 👇 bit.ly/4oao9CJ

Mayor @daniellurie is right! Under his leadership and DA @brookejenkinsSF, crime in SF is at record lows and the City is already working in partnership with state & federal law enforcement to get fentanyl off our streets. We don't need National Guard deployment in our City. It will only create chaos and further divide us, not bring us together to keep our City safe!
Daniel Lurie 丹尼爾·羅偉@DanielLurie

As your mayor, my top priority every single day is keeping San Francisco safe. With the support of local law enforcement, community leaders, and the appropriate federal law enforcement partners, we’re achieving that goal without compromising our values or our laws. As a result, violent crime has fallen to levels not seen since the 1950s, tent encampments are at record lows, and for the first time in years, San Franciscans believe our city is moving in the right direction.   There is no question we have more work to do. I ran for mayor because I see the impact of fentanyl use on our streets—when I drop my son off at school, when I talk to our business and community leaders, when I walk through the city in between meetings. My administration is working every day to make our city better.   Our local law enforcement already has longstanding partnerships with state and federal law enforcement to shut down open-air drug markets through our Drug Market Agency Coordination Center. To continue getting fentanyl off the street, we would welcome stronger coordination with the FBI, DEA, ATF, and U.S. Attorney to execute targeted operations, arrest drug dealers, and disrupt drug markets and multinational cartels. I trust our police officers, sheriff’s deputies, and district attorney to work together to keep our city safe—and with the right coordinated support from our state and federal partners they will have the tools to advance this critical work.   I am deeply grateful to the members of our military for their service to our country, but the National Guard does not have the authority to arrest drug dealers—and sending them to San Francisco will do nothing to get fentanyl off the streets or make our city safer.   Under my leadership, we will always protect the people and the values that make San Francisco the greatest city in the world. That means welcoming people in our city and standing up for every member of our community and for the longstanding policies that have kept our communities safe. As your mayor, that has been and always will be my north star.

San Francisco's momentum is undeniable. Crime is down, small businesses are opening with an easier permitting process, and innovation is driving our economy. There’s more work ahead, but San Francisco is on the rise. wsj.com/economy/san-fr…

Multiple Chicago schools went on lockdown today because of ICE, including my son’s and the one I’m on the council of. Spent the last two hours standing outside, trying to make sure nothing happens to these kids. This is horrible.

@MattMahanSJ The fed forces Mahan to close this encampment w/ stiff fines, $60K per pollutant/day. But Mahan still has NOT ENOUGH homeless shelters despite spending over $500 million during his short term, just for ~2,500 people. Mahan’s simply moving this encampment to your neighborhood.

Mayor Matt Mahan@MattMahanSJ·
Some of you may remember last year, when we were talking a lot about our storm water permit and the risk we faced of losing it. Since then, we’ve cleared many miles of our waterways and are establishing no encampment zones to preserve our progress. But we’re not just reducing the amount of debris from entering our creeks and rivers — we’re reclaiming our trails for the entire community to enjoy. And it’s working. We’ve seen a 110% increase in trail usage and tomorrow, we’re bringing residents together to make the area even more beautiful. Join us at: bit.ly/9-20-Guadalupe
