Maybe Scheyer will win it all at some point. Eventually you do win with a stacked roster.
But Coach K also had two lottery picks TOTAL in his first 10 seasons as Duke head coach. Scheyer has four total (soon to be five) in four seasons including three just last year.

@snbaker14 @scott_fowler They have gotten better with that with Maliq & Sion James. They had Evans/Pat/CFos return this year. Jai leaving & taking Henderson, then Coward staying in the draft & then Pat/CFos getting hurt killed their chances.

@scott_fowler Dukes “flaw” is that they recruit the best freshman class and rely on those freshman. They need to find a way to balance the portal with veteran players

That said, if Duke continues to skimp on finding an elite point guard to go with its always-elite bigs, it’s never going to win another championship.

@scott_fowler Every recruiting class is different. Not every class has an elite PG & not every elite guard wants to go to Duke. Jai took Henderson to Miami & Coward left early for the draft. Lots of components & moving chairs every year

1. If you’re a Duke fan listening to your local radio broadcast, this is exactly how you want this moment to be called.

Can’t believe I’m typing this out after the Houston loss last year in the Final Four… but the UConn E8 game is arguably the worst loss I’ve seen of my 35+ years as an avid fan and supporter of the Duke program.

@LykinsChad_ The Houston loss is much worse imo. That team was actually capable of winning a title at the time, not so much this year given the injuries & roster construction

@LykinsChad_ The refs aren’t calling fouls more b/c Hurley was at their end on offense. Officiating sucked all game, per usual. Duke was tired, Cam was short on every jumper. Pat was fouling b/c he’s tired & has limited mobility, even with meh calls. Brown looked out of sorts all weekend

Have to question how the whistle changed in the second half. Will Never know what is behind that. Scheyer can’t say it but it’s cleared it changed. Game shifted early in the second half. Uconn made the plays though and Duke withered

@BrandonJDorsey1 @JasonDukeEvans Except that’s not worst case, missing the front end of a 1&1 is. Just a good trap by UConn and some bad luck. Letting the game get that tight was the issue, even though Duke was lucky to even be there or up that much

@JasonDukeEvans This is a really bad take. When a team gets the ball in an 80% shooter’s hands they expect that the worst case scenario is that they get two free throws. In his post game interview it was clear that he didn’t want the ball. Trying to pass over two longer defenders is low ball IQ.

If you’re looking at it from the end of game execution, it was just bad luck. They lost last year with FT misses 🤷🏻♂️
