Turning 50 next week and reflecting on my life up to this point. Here are 4 hard earned lessons for anyone 18-30 something. -Start investing asap. While I did invest through the years, I feel like I did it wrong. The vast majority of my money went back into my businesses. I essentially paid myself last. Lots of great ppl on X to learn short and long game investing from on X. -Growing up without a father figure and lacking real mentors in my life I’ve always struggled to figure (literally) everything out. I grew up super financially disadvantaged (aka poor af) so I had no one to turn to about money, business, and healthy relationships. If you fall into this category you probably think you don’t need anyone because you’ve always figured it out. My mother did the best she could with what she had to work with and I would only hope I could do as well as she did given the same circumstances. -You need a team of people who are where you’re going and finding them will be ultra important. -Work. It’s ok to bounce around until you find what you like. While I had a hand full of jobs through my teenage years I really found my stride when I started my first business cleaning offices at night. It had nothing to do with scrubbing toilets and everything to do with me being in charge of my own destiny. I’ve had 3 jobs as an adult and was fired from 2 of them. My only regret? I quit the 3rd one before they could fire me. Find YOUR path in the world and own it. When I say I’m UnEmployable, I mean it. I’ve been offered dozens of great jobs over the years and confidently (and politely) turn them down. -Who you marry matters more than any other decision you’ll make in your life. Period. Here’s the brutal truth about my life that I rarely share and most accounts never share. I never intended to be divorced 2X, have one failed long term relationship with a mentally unhealthy person and two kids with two baby mama’s. It’s caused lots of stress, literally cost me hundreds of thousands of dollars and has distracted me throughout the years and slowed my progress on living up to my potential. This, I can (and will) give you a roadmap to avoid my mistakes. First and foremost, it’s important to know what you want and MORE IMPORTANTLY know what you don’t want. -Alignment of goals and willingness to work towards them. People say they want things they’re not willing to sacrifice and work for. Run away. -Being happy within oneself. Lacking true happiness within will contaminate every relationship. -How they talk about their ex. Losers love to be the victim. Even if they were treated bad it shows you who they really are, how they refer to their ex. -Do they strive to improve themselves and actively work towards their goals? People grow at different paces and what’s most important is that both are supportive of the other’s growth. Laziness is the cancer of success. Wanting more for others than they want for themselves is always a losing battle, and inevitably ends in disaster with a mess to clean up. Let’s hope you don’t have a kid on the way out and be tied to that person for 18+ years. At times it feels as if I’ve made every mistake possible while at the same time I’ve gained so much at the same time. I have two amazing kids, a phenomenal wife it took me too long to find, and a life I’m blessed to live. I hope this helps bring some clarity on what’s important and what to avoid. Thanks for reading, Rick

I'm Parker. I’ve - Scrubbed toilets with my fiancée to pay rent - Made a million dollars online and lost it all - Played professional soccer and got replaced overnight - Launched 400+ remote home service businesses (equity in 100+ of them) - Directly sold over $2M in home services (while indirectly influencing over $20M more) Here's my story:

@TheRickCarlson What is net off the “100k+ revenue”. $250k is a fantasy here. Maybe half that.

@DanielG__83 @TheRickCarlson Come on. Spending $250K for $100K rev with no moat on inflatables in Idaho? How much is fuel, maintenance, cleaning registration, wages? Then subtract from $100k. Better to use the $250K and spin up yourself, especially if going vertical.

@DanielG__83 I’ll add that no company doing a roll up would not pay this multiple. I’ve done that more than a few times. They’re looking for someone with more money than sense.

It's not buying a job for a company looking to vertically integrate. It's not buying a job for a company looking to roll up in the same space. I know this what folks love to do when they see business listings and I know it's hard to believe but there's a lot of folks out looking for the freedom that comes along with "Buying a job"

@DanielG__83 There in lies the problem. There’s a better way and until one refuses to repeat the same mistakes if the past. I’ve been there, history doesn’t have to repeat.

Been through the SBA process myself. 3 things nobody tells you: the appraisal will come in lower than you expect and you need to not panic. The paperwork timeline is whatever they tell you plus six weeks. And get your personal financial statement cleaned up before you apply, not after they ask for it

Find the place you want to stay on the big sites then go direct. As a hotel owner there’s nothing worse than telling the guest I don’t own your reservation and there’s nothing I can do (100% true) and bonus…..we have to pay a 15% + commission on your stay.

@bookingcom just blatantly stole my money Two weeks of documents, dozens of emails, and Booking’s response? They’re keeping my money because of a technicality. Let me explain Here’s what happened: - I booked a car rental via Booking in Cordoba - My credit card was declined at pickup because it’s a foreign one (apparently a normal problem) - The rental company told me to contact Booking, they wouldn’t charge me - Booking told me to process the refund - Two weeks later: “Sorry, you were 1 hour late. No refund.” There’s no legitimate reason to keep money for a service that was never provided
