F-35 is by far the best fighter platform on the planet. BUT... Many bought into the program because of the US alliance. Does Portugal really need the F-35? Of course not. But they did value the American alliance. But now...not so much. The value of the plane is diminished.
Jeremy Redfern@JeremyRedfernFL

It’s cute that some countries believe there’s an “alternative” to the F-35. You can gripe about the initial problems with the program and cost, but the F-35 is now a matured aircraft that is unmatched by potential adversaries. But, hey, you do you, Canada.

@ATAV01342060 @bdquinn They should have been in Afghanistan in October 2001 like Poland, the UK, and others. They didn't. And when they finally deployed troops it was inactive and calm areas as glorified blue helmets. That's a shitty ally.

@TimRTR7105 @bdquinn France left NATO integrated command to build their own nukes (they were right!), the UK was also involved in Suez and French troops deployed to Afghanistan in 2003 and made joint operations in Africa along US troops. France is not a bad ally, just one with its own agenda.

Portugal buying F-35s is Portugal being a good NATO member and having a functional air force. However, yeah, if the U.S. is proving it will pivot on a dime and be a questionable supplier, then looking elsewhere is probably appropriate, if messy.

@suzy_redd @BamaHistory @ESPNLunardi @AlabamaMBB There's reasonable debates every year in football as a sport about the definition of rules. And there isn't a flag threw every other play. Literally yesterday Sears, Philon, and Aden got ran into every time they started their breaks. Not a single foul was called.

80% of Canadians agree with cancelling the rest of our F-35 purchases like Turkey and Portugal and instead buying Swedish Gripens and British Typhoons.

@ATAV01342060 @bdquinn Modern France has always been a shitty ally. From capitulation and collaboration, to Suez, to leaving NATO integrated command for decades, to laundering Iraqi oil money in defiance of oil for food, to their lackluster response to 9/11.

@TimRTR7105 @bdquinn France has been weary of America's commitement to European security since De Gaulle. In light of recent developments, can you really blame them? F35 is superior to Rafale,no questions. But do you prefer working weapons with strategic independence or a plane with strings atrached?

Let's examine your beta male comment for a moment. Senator Mark Kelly has built an extraordinary career as a fighter pilot, astronaut, and U.S. Senator, demonstrating leadership, resilience, and service at the highest levels. The idea that he is a “beta male” is not only factually baseless but laughably ignorant given his lifetime of high-stakes achievements. Kelly began his career as a U.S. Navy fighter pilot, where he flew 39 combat missions during Operation Desert Storm, piloting the A-6 Intruder attack aircraft. Over the course of his military service, he accumulated over 5,000 flight hours in more than 50 different aircraft and completed over 375 carrier landings, one of the most challenging feats in naval aviation. His expertise and leadership as a pilot led him to be selected as a NASA astronaut in 1996, a role that required not only elite aviation skills but also a deep understanding of science, engineering, and teamwork. As an astronaut, he flew four space shuttle missions aboard Endeavour and Discovery, commanding two of them, and spent over 50 days in space. His final mission, STS-134 in 2011, was the last flight of Space Shuttle Endeavour, marking a historic milestone in U.S. space exploration. Throughout his NASA career, he contributed to vital scientific research and played a critical role in the construction and maintenance of the International Space Station. After retiring from NASA, Kelly transitioned to public service and was elected as U.S. Senator for Arizona in 2020, defeating incumbent Martha McSally in a competitive race. In the Senate, he has focused on veterans’ issues, infrastructure, national security, and economic growth, playing a key role in passing the CHIPS and Science Act to strengthen U.S. semiconductor manufacturing. He has also worked to lower prescription drug prices, increase funding for NASA and defense programs, and advocate for bipartisan solutions to border security and immigration reform. Beyond politics, he has been a dedicated advocate for gun safety, co-founding the Giffords Foundation after his wife, former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, survived an assassination attempt in 2011. Mark Kelly’s career is defined by courage, intelligence, and leadership—qualities he has demonstrated in combat, in space, and in the Senate. The notion that someone with his record of service, technical expertise, and resilience is a “beta male” is beyond absurd. If anything, his life is a testament to what true leadership looks like—someone who has risked everything for his country and continues to serve with integrity and dedication. A beta male would be someone that owned a PR firm, or a special assistant, or communications, or talking head.

This is the weirdest trade war. Canada’s best ideas for retaliation so far have been to ban pornhub and downgrade their own military capabilities by switching to an inferior fighter jet.
OSINTtechnical@Osinttechnical

Canada has joined Portugal in reexamining its plans to buy American F-35s. Canada is actively looking at potential alternatives to the F-35 and will hold conversations with rival aircraft makers, Canadian MoD Bill Blair confirmed on CBC last night.

It wasn't just the vegetarians, it was outdated dietary advice rooted in the corrupt push against saturated fats. Most of this was also funded by the same companies that developed margarine and transfats, which were supposed to be miracle products. The American Heart Association for example, was bought and paid for by the same companies pushing margarine. McDonald's was able to hang their hat on this "science," but in reality, it was about saving money and cheapening their food.
Jen Wright@JenWEsq

@ChefGruel I remember when McD’s used beef tallow for fries. 🤤 Then the vegetarians got big mad…. Why TF did McD’s let vegetarians dictate how a BURGER joint should operate? 🤦🏻‍♀️

Very imaginative! NONE of these are Republican positions, none. Republican Positions: (I'm not an Official spokesman!) Abortion: 100% this is a state issue. No longer a National issue (yes, with relief!) State level- a wide range of beliefs, most to allow for rape, health, incest Social Security & Medicare: cut waste and inefficiency, perhaps increase benefits if waste & fraud are gone. (Very widely posted recently!) Same sex marriage - nobody is talking about it, no one cares (of course there's always the fringe) Guns/background checks- most favor background checks. They would like the process to be speedier. Open & concealed carry- many are in favor of making this easier. Book bans- 100% in favor of banning pornography. Especially explicit and pictorial porno. They call for age appropriate books. Contraception Restrictions - 😅😂😅 Don't be silly. THIS is a large part of why one side is constantly opposing what 80% favor. The inability to even recognize the issues!

This seems roughly correct to me in terms of 80-20 issues where one party is on the wrong side of public opinion. Not all of these are actually part of the party's platforms (e.g. defund the police, ban contraception), but they're associated with the party in a negative way.

The Trump Admin actively working to ban solar/wind development on federal lands is a bad, wholly ideological move. Not only is it bad for the climate and anti-market, it's also opposed by the vast majority of Americans.
