@teddyj_CEO @maybedanielleee @FreightAlley @FMCSA Thanks for tagging me. Responded above. If more people understood the process then they would understand why we filed for the exemption to improve things for others and not just ourselves. Better to try and get denied than not try at all 🤷🏾‍♂️

CloudTrucks, LLC requested an exemption from certain requirements of the employment application regulations from the @FMCSA. Specifically, they sought an exemption from the requirement to collect the following information from prospective drivers: a list of employers' names, addresses, dates of employment, reason for leaving, nature of the position the driver held, and whether the driver was subject to the alcohol and controlled substances testing requirements. In their request letter, they cited a proprietary "streamlined verification" process. On Feb 6, 2026, the @FMCSA denied their request. "CloudTrucks is a nationwide, for-hire carrier dispatching approximately 700 owner-operator power units (targeting 3,000 by 2026)."

The reason we asked for the exemption is because the current process is extremely broken. Have you ever tried to verify employment for a driver? Most prior employers never even respond. We built integrations to multiple systems (mostly government databases but also others) to verify this and it works way better while saving time for everyone involved and helping qualified drivers make money. This includes - PSP, DACC, MVR etc. the harsh truth in trucking today is that most people don’t even bother with the employment verification. We go above and beyond. Maybe someday we’ll open the system we built for others to use for free… that said, we respect the FMCSA decision and we’ll keep doing our process + the manual process in parallel. Onwards!

Rippling AI was the most successful launch we've ever done. On the heels of this launch, Rippling's revenue is now growing 78% YoY (at ARR over $1 Billion). And this growth rate has now increased, every quarter, for three straight quarters.

Rippling launched its AI analyst today. I'm not just the CEO - I'm also the Rippling admin for our co, and I run payroll for our ~ 5K global employees. Here are 5 specific ways Rippling AI has changed my job, and why I believe this is the future of G&A software. 🧵 1/n

If you’re running a business in Europe or the UK, we bring good news from across the Atlantic. @tryramp launches locally this summer. We’re setting up shop and the waitlist is open. The median Ramp customer saves 5% and grows revenue 16% in their first year. Europe’s most ambitious companies deserve the same.

@FreightAlley Do you know how much money an owner operator spends on insurance per truck today? Why do you think raising minimums increases scrutiny vs just wiping out entire owner operator class?

The trucking insurance market is completely broken. Insurance minimums have not changed since 1980, when they were first introduced after deregulation. Not only has it not kept up with CPI (would be $1.6m today), it has not kept up with medical inflation ($3.2m). Get into a serious accident with a heavy-duty truck? Good luck getting your medical and other bills fully covered. Want to fix the safety and security crisis in trucking? Increase the minimum insurance policy value that truckers must carry.

@FreightAlley Btw I should add - CT is now a fleet of 700+ drivers built up over <6 years. Would love to be much larger (and we’ll get there). hard things worth doing take time…

@FreightAlley The real problem is that rates drive behavior. The CT model has drivers running as owner operators with independence BUT this mainly works with spot rates above a level where owner operators can thrive without needing to break rules. Hard to do with rates the way they’ve been.

This has been tried unsuccessfully, with hundreds of millions (billions?) burned. AI Fleet, CloudTrucks, Variant - all attempted to do this, but the model never worked. Two issues (among many): Driver employees don’t to be force dispatched by an app without human connection. If they wanted that, they’d become an owner operator and just work with brokers. The largest fleets survive because they have networks that have been built out over decades. They secure freight from the largest shippers because they offer technology, assets, and human oversight when things go wrong. Running assets is hard. As US Xpress, AI Fleet, and CloudTrucks have learned, you can’t automate the operations of an asset-based truckload operator as long as human drivers are involved.

i cant get over the fact that america’s trucking industry runs on thousands of brokers and phone calls a tech first american trucking company would absolutely rip >optimized algos for lanes / trips >multiple trucks can do longer deliveries >eventually go self driving >collect data in mean time for self driving company you parter w (tesla) >instant pricing w options (uber freight does this)

let’s say were a great sales leader in SaaS, secured the bag, and have been chilling. now might be the time to go back for one more tour of duty. The labs have better products than anything you sold before. And they have no clue how to get it into the enterprise. We’re going to see NBA money changing hands

Ok politics aside (which I know will be tough for many, but) ... go apologize. Go fix a broken relationship. Just say you are sorry. It's the first Sunday of 2026. A time to do better. Even relationships that seem totally broken can sometimes be repaired. In business, at home, at work, with old friends. Sometimes at least. An honest, sincere, caveat-free apology can go a long way. If there's one relationship you broke in 2025 (or even before) that you regret breaking, just go apologize. Pick up the phone, or at least, the email. No caveats. No passive voice. Own it. Apologize. No one does this. It works. Not always. But often. Often enough.

@immad now that you're not a part of YC, how do you immerse yourself in a river of ideas these days?

3/ I think every entrepreneur should immerse themselves in a river of ideas. YC was that for me. Having access to founders like Zuckerberg and Dorsey early on made the idea of building big things feel attainable. I’ve also learned a lot from reading biographies of successful people like Steve Jobs, Andre Agassi, and even The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

There are a few who have had a more consequential influence in my founder journey as @qasar. One of the first checks in my first company, introduced me to many follow-on investors, gave tough advice when needed and stuck by me when things got tough. He’s as good as it gets as a founder, adviser, friend. Glad he’s sharing his thoughts more openly. 🙏🏾
