True, maybe, but a lot more could be done to stop Iranian arms leaking back into Iraq from Syria. There should be a much more determined effort to find and destroy caches not evacuated end of 2024.

State’s Bureau of Counterterrorism reported that since taking control of Syria, President al-Shara’a has ceased all cooperation with Iran, Hezbollah, and other Iran-aligned militia groups that had been in effect during the regime of deposed dictator Bashar al-Assad, and disrupted many smuggling routes formerly used by Iran and its proxies. Syria took additional steps following the launch of OEF to fortify its borders and prevent Hezbollah and Iran-backed militias from re-entry into Syria, State said.

There is not enough anti-ballistic missile production in the United States and this could lead to a crisis in different parts of the world. Russia is ramping up its internal production of ballistic missiles. I sent a letter to the White House and to the U.S. Congress. I hope they will understand and respond. 60–65 anti-ballistic missiles per month, compared to current challenges, is nothing. It is no secret and Russia knows this. We need to expand the production. I asked the previous U.S. administration, and I am asking today’s administration to give Ukraine licenses to produce Patriot missiles. We can increase the production of Patriot missiles. This will help us. This will help the Middle East and any other country that the United States decides to help. Russia is routing LNG carriers to and from China around the Cape of Good Hope to avoid the Mediterranean Sea. This shift follows a drone attack on the Russia-flagged tanker Arctic Metagaz east of Malta in March.
At least five Russian-flagged vessels sanctioned by the EU or UK were tracked on this route during April and May. The path involves sailing southbound from Arctic LNG trains around the Cape of Good Hope and entering the South China Sea via the Sunda Strait.
While the longer route was used intermittently in 2023 to avoid Houthi attacks and high insurance premiums in the Red Sea, vessel tracking now indicates a broader effort to reduce exposure to the Mediterranean. The difficulty of the Arctic Metagaz salvage operation highlights the operational risks Russia is seeking to mitigate.
This signals that Russia continues to prioritize route deviations for sanctioned LNG carriers to bypass both the Red Sea and the Mediterranean.

The terrorist regime of the Ayatollahs in Iran has started issuing long prison sentences for thousands of arrested protesters, in addition to execution sentences already issued for many others.
Tara and Kimia Davoudi, two sisters imprisoned in after their participation in the anti-regime protests of January 2026, have now been sentenced by Branch 15 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Abolghasem Salavati, to a combined total of 16 years in prison.
Kimia Davoudi was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment on charges including “communication with anti-regime groups and networks” and “assembly and collusion against national security.” Tara Davoudi was sentenced to six years imprisonment on charges including “assembly and collusion against national security” and “propaganda against the regime.”
The two sisters were arrested on January 14, 2026, during nationwide protests in Tehran. According to human rights sources, their arrest was accompanied by violence and beatings by Iranian security forces.

According to images published online, what appears to be another MQ-9A Reaper armed drone was shot down over Yemen earlier today, once again in the skies above Marib Province.
The drone was brought down by IRGC Quds Force Houthi terrorists.
Eleven days ago, an MQ-9A Reaper was shot down over the same province in Yemen. Three days ago, another MQ-9A Reaper was brought down over Qeshm Island by Iranian Armed Forces.

My piece in @FT on why Iran has been reluctant to sign on to the MoU agreement and why the agreement is not likely to easily lead to a larger deal in 30 or 60 days: "The dominant view shared across the political spectrum in Tehran is that, given Trump’s record, the promise of diplomacy could actually raise the threat of war. Washington’s seemingly generous concessions are interpreted as too good to be true. Tehran suspects that the US seeks not a lasting peace but a free hand to keep Iran isolated and weak, checking its nuclear and missile activities by periodically “mowing the lawn”. Faced with such a prospect, deterrence is all that matters. Iranian leaders talk of control of the Strait of Hormuz and maintaining Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium as the key to deterrence. They believe any durable deal that includes economic compensation for war damage and lasting sanctions relief would hinge on these two issues; the US is demanding that Iran concede on both. Former Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi @HadiPresiden passed away. In a 2017 interview with @TalalAlhaj on @AlArabiya, he recalled a warning he had made at the @UN in 2012 about Iran’s regional ambitions. “Iran had an old strategy,” Hadi said. “The strategy was to control the Bab al-Mandab Strait and then the Strait of Hormuz. If it were able to control both waterways, it would not need to become a nuclear power. It could exert pressure on the world through these two vital gateways between East and West and achieve global influence. These were its ambitions, and I raised this issue at the United Nations.”
A year before, in 2016, he echoed a similar message to @AJArabic’s Murad Hashim, saying, “Iran has aspirations to control Bab al-Mandab, and to control Strait of Hormuz.”
