Why would he go to a team that would have to gut their core / future of the team for the Oilers to accept? I’ll be called delusional but I do feel the Oilers can extend their Cup window if they make the necessary moves this off-season. In my opinion, that starts by trading Darnell Nurse. Not every move will pan out but you will need more home runs than anything.

@Matty_KCSN @B_Gwin16 Guy was projected top 15 before he got hurt. He was essentially just like Woods. It boggles my mind we worry about knee injuries in rookies but not in guys currently in the league. Younger guys recover better!

@B_Gwin16 McCoy was the most talented CB in the class imo so at pick 40 that’s just too much talent to pass up. The other CBs just a talent to pick option, CB pos is slated to be high up on the BPA list.

One Chiefs strategy that I haven’t seen many people talk about for this draft is trading down. Lots of talk of the DEs, WRs, Love, and now RT. If you’re able to find a team to jump up from the late teens or twenties and throw in a 1st round pick in 27 I think you do it. Why?

I've been doing this work for about 10 years now but the model has only really existed since about 2018. I get a lot of questions (and trolling, etc.) about how well this model works at projecting success into the future. It takes FOREVER for a prospect to officially be a hit or a miss (5 years at least but more like 6 to 8 years). But early signs are... the model is working basically just as expected. Here's a look at F and D drafted from 2018 to 2021 vs. ones drafted 2000 to 2016 with the NHLer probability groupings at the time of the draft as well as after their 5 year track. For the 2018 to 2021 threshold of games I set it at 75 because... again... it takes forever. We can't even really look at 2022 yet because so few of them have made the jump thus far. But the probabilities are lining up relatively close with the 2000 to 2016 data (that the model was trained on). The same trends are happening again. They'll just take years and years to realize. The ones that generally make it are the ones outproducing their peers, especially at younger ages. This might seem obvious and it is obvious. But, still today, ~60% of all picks made at the draft are on low probability, low producers, that have little chance of making the NHL.
