@UtdDrivel @paritosh_bhide The issue here is that each of the individual events that make up the distribution need to be independent for that to hold true. That isn’t true in football. Either through multiple events taking place in the same action or game state affecting how teams approach the game.

In that taking a lot of low xG shots has a bigger variance in expected results vs fewer high xG shots. Could reduce mistrust in xG if you see an 'xG randomness/confidence/variance' stat along with xG.

@thornbill9 @paritosh_bhide it's not a flaw at all, it makes xG a great stat for measuring how good players are at shooting, by comparing a player's actual goals scored vs xG

@paritosh_bhide The biggest flaw is that in the nba you accept that leaving Steph and dray open for the same shot is not equal but somehow in both football and hockey people believe that being an xG cheat isn’t a sustainable skill. Never bought this nerd truism

Very player reliant football. Take Mainoo out, and there's zero progression. Mainoo releasing to Fernandes triggers no movement, Shaw has no role, Amad stays wide and static, I don't like it. Yes, good football is player led, but a coach can help grant more flow and fallback.
