The Evolution of Bitcoin Treasury Companies: Passive accumulation models, reliant on continuous share issuance, represent only the first phase of Bitcoin’s integration into capital markets. As companies race to accumulate BTC, this approach was inevitable, but it isn’t mathematically sustainable with scale and begins to resemble a Ponzi-like structure over time. The natural evolution is therefore clear: their BTC holdings must be deployed productively to generate compounding, non-dilutive value for shareholders. From here, the sector likely progresses through three phases: Phase 1: Passive accumulation (Treasury 1.0) Phase 2: Transforming BTC into a productive asset generating BTC-denominated cash flow (Treasury 2.0) Phase 3: Leveraging earned sats to deliver shareholder returns via a Bitcoin-native digital credit layer (Treasury 3.0) At present, only two public Bitcoin treasury companies - $LQWD and $HODL - have reached the second phase, with one being the pioneer. $XXI is the first major entrant now actively transitioning into Treasury 2.0. All the others are intentionally choosing to stay in the first phase. The longer they wait, the lower their chance of prosperity... Companies that persist as Treasury 1.0 structures risk embedding Bitcoin within the same perpetual fiat mechanisms it was designed to escape — ultimately eroding, rather than creating, shareholder value.
