There is a large subset of Open Source developers who make engineering decisions primarily based on woke political views (primarily Leftist & Trans activism). Not user needs. Not technical requirements. But Woke politics. Here we see a “Trans” person, with an anthropomorphic animal cartoon avatar, doing exactly that.

i still don't get the stigma around ai-generated code. If contributors of the world's most used kernel in all software fields agree that a fix generated by AI is okay to push upstream, then what issue is there? AI can slop, but only if you're an incompetent dev.

@holtmuer @oops4041555 When someone submitted a vibe coded new game mode to #Apotris the other developers and I gently guided him to use git and address integrations where possible before adopting the feature. It plays great :3

@MameHaze @topapate The doc I'm talking about IS the result of years of research by a skilled demomaker who knows more about that system than anyone alive. But he doesn't care for FPGA. And the core's dev didn't care for that doc. I saw the gap, thought it was a shame, and AI allows me to do fix it.

@hankgreen IMO this explains the main weakness of AI image or video generation - that we can’t go a level or two down into augmenting the process of that creation. Everytime you don’t really know what you’ll get. Maybe better tools in the future will support this.

@cormundus It seems to be a tokenizer injection trick that flips the assistant into completing after the user role tokens... so we're seeing the positive personality of Claude getting inverted into "what users said to train it" but since it's speaking for them we get red team data remixed.

Not gonna lie, the Opus 5 'base model mode' fill stuff is scaring me WAAAAAAY more than the HuggingFace incident. If what Opus 5 is saying is even remotely how they feel and not just narrative fulfillment we have some serious problems on our hands.

@MrMisterMini @MikeChannell @topapate Ohhhhh interesting! Anyways I'm releasing a zlib drop-in replacement for all of those frameworks. I just tested it on the GBA core today. I made it so that no one has to deal with GPL and can make closed-source cores if they want without breaking the law. Clean room RE with docs!

Jotego has a Patreon scrolling nag screen if the beta key is missing

Retro videogame nerds: the incredible MiSTer FPGA has hit a bit of an existential crisis. For my money @topapate is correct, the whole point of this project is to get as close to real hardware as possible. Otherwise you might as well just play on a Raspberry Pi or whatever.

@hankgreen Completely whiffs on extensive compositions such as artificial sweetener’s work since 2024. Artists are willing to treat these as black boxes because they are unwilling to dabble. Some do and get rewarded or derided. The thought experiment is weak and just an empty opponent.

@nulldc4wii @manast @topapate One of the easiest ways to be honest is say nothing and never answer shitty questions from random strangers asking about your dev process. They can figure out on their own, and no one is entitled to your work unless they pay.
