We are blindly backsliding into the era when working in culture was basically a hobby for posh people. Working class people have never been properly represented in the arts but it's getting worse, not better. We need to get serious about funding for the arts now.
PCS Culture Group@PCSCultureGroup

This is the inevitable result of low pay in the sector. If you cannot support yourself on an arts wage then a career in the arts becomes the preserve of the wealthy. If we want the UK heritage sector to reflect our society, it starts with increasing pay. theguardian.com/inequality/art…

I lost the Labour whip because I voted to scrap the 2 child benefit cap. Today I have had the whip restored. I hope this is a signal the government has decided to scrap the cap. In the meantime I have just been to a fantastic Richard Hawley concert. A great night.

Congratulations to our PCS V&A Wilson James comrades who have won their largest ever pay rise, up to 10% for some staff, in this year's pay bargaining after gaining recognition last year 🍾🎉

@Keir_Starmer Man completely unfamiliar with 20th century history learns what happens when you appease and enable a fascist state that is conducting a genocide 👀👀

The reports of these strikes are concerning and we urge all parties to step back and reduce tensions urgently. Escalation serves no one in the region. Stability in the Middle East must be the priority and we are engaging partners to de-escalate. Now is the time for restraint, calm and a return to diplomacy.

If you are one of the people going into an exhibition at a museum, seeing the large print guides and thinking "this is not an accessibility aid to allow visitors with visual impairments to enjoy the show, this is a fun memento for me to take home" please, please stop doing this

For the avoidance of any doubt I have made it explicitly clear I will vote against the government’s plans to cut benefits for disabled people. Just as I’ve done for years I will campaign with ⁦@Dis_PPL_Protest⁩ to prevent attacks on disabled people. labourlist.org/2025/03/spring…

"Our campaign is bigger than the bill; it is about culture change, it is about ensuring that this government fulfils its promises, that outsourcing becomes a thing of the past, and that insourcing becomes a clear policy focus. We remain committed and united as a movement in the fight to return our Facility Management members to the public sector and ensure we have strong public services for all." - Lori Holmes, PCS, speaking at the Employments Rights Bill Rally in London today. #WorkersRights #EmploymentRightsBill #NewDeal #PCS

We condemn the University of Cambridge's attempt to place legal restrictions on all pro-Palestine protests. Alongside @PSCupdates and @LibertyHQ we call out this application to the High Court for an injunction what it is: a shameful attack on basic democratic rights.

@VandPcs I managed to get some people in a coffee shop signed up when grabbing some lunch before. Not quite as extreme as a suppository!

@Councillorsuzie One would conclude that intimidation is part of the problem…can you imagine the uproar if a similar sized gang of all white football fans were acting in a similar manner.

Imagine, working people having a say in how the economy works. Crazy. This sort of bullshit is why people hate economists

@meadwaj From an Oxford professor: Perhaps the most important ‘theory’ of economic growth is to learn from rather than repeat past mistakes. (Given your day job, if you neither recognise this nor follow Simon then you are seriously remiss).

So to summarise, a bunch of Oxford and Cambridge graduates who live in London are very very keen on seeing lots of investment taking place in Oxford Cambridge and London. But don’t worry, this time it’s going to be very different to all the other times this has happened.
