@Thomasdelvasto_ For some people, exercise is a natural evolution of an athletic youth, and hardly requires thought. Others actually need to consult a doctor before starting a new exercise regimen.

@Thomasdelvasto_ There seems to be pretty massive variability here. I basically never injured myself, even when doing silly things like power cleans for reps. I just adjust if something feels wrong. My wife meanwhile barely feels it in the moment when she injures herself from overexertion.

it's insane how cavalier most people are about working out, given how complicated, important, and easy it is to fuck it up

@MorlockP Mm, it's not just that. Reading is also consumption. So is being a cinema buff. Cultivating taste is an angle that garners some respect in some dimensions of media consumption, but not others. Video games do seem pretty uniquely excluded from that relative to other art forms.

2/ No they don't. Women are impressed by woodworking, blacksmithing, guitar, etc Videogames are just uniquely low status bc they demonstrate no useful skills, no stamina, no craftsmanship. People look down on videogames as hobby bc it's consumption. x.com/i/status/20514…

They say this literally about every single hobby you'll ever develop or try by the way. Some women just hate the idea of a man enjoying himself even a little

@bradwritesscifi @WriteGrlProbs Very relatable. I always feel the worst at 10% and 70% done. Then once the story closes, I immediately feel 1000% better about even the weakest parts of the narrative and begin worrying about the next one.

This might be weird to say, but I'm actually scared to start writing this book. I think I'm worried it won't turn out despite how much effort I put into the planning for it.

it's actually related to that one anti natalist post and the discourse around it today for the longest time I didn't get why the servant who hid his talent was *sinning* it seemed like a neutral act to me; he was just scared! what if he'd lost it! kind of a pussy sure but is that a sin? and I think the answer actually is yes acting via avoidance of an unwanted outcome is like a kind of dead existence it's just turning and walking into a wall suicide in life my grandma used to say "anxiety is a sin" and I thought that was so mean, and hypocritical because she was terribly anxious but I think I get her point now god said "let there be" things are supposed to keep going; we are supposed to use what we have boldly

@Gingerblast Ooh. I really like this. I'm currently at capacity on campaigns, but I might try running something similar for my next big one. Would let me encourage more pvp too if players have meta progression outside a particular character.

With each player running a god and civilization in my game, a problem I have is that the game seems to bleed evil players. In the 3 years I've been having players control gods, I lost 4/19 players and all 4 were controlling evil civs and gods. While I lost 4 players at different points (and at least 2 were for reasons unrelated to the game), I've seen others who initially wanted to play an evil god/civ, but ended up buddying up with the good-aligned ones. I love running my game as a war game layered over an RPG, but it seems that the social aspects of the war game make it difficult for players to play evil civs, but their role is among the most important because they are some of the biggest catalysts for conflict. I'm guessing the disparity is because they may feel that everyone in the game is against them and it makes them not want to play aggressively. I'm not sure if I need to specifically give advantages to them in the future or what. I'm thinking I may just need to be clearer with people that playing an evil god is the most difficult and yet most important role. I think this may be a problem also specific to my group because everyone just wants to be friends and respect each others territory despite the incentives for combat!

@Thomasdelvasto_ I bounced pretty hard off the first book. It had some charm, but I didn't feel much attachment or stakes. Might give it another go once I finish the Elric anthology I picked up at HPB.

reading Mage Errant right now and it's light and fun progression fantasy my only complaints are the therapy speak between teenagers, and the overly redditor style of writing

@simonsarris I actually really like my cheap LGs. They play twinkle twinkle when they finish a load, and the dryer is great. The front load washer, whole convenient, is say prone to lining mildew that is difficult to control.

Idk why people are so obsessed with human code reviews. Back when I did them regularly I basically had 3 reviews. "Fine, cosmetic nitpick." "You should have talked to me before doing this, guess you'll do it again." and "We should fire this guy." Code quality ain't improving.

"This is too important and needs a human code review" Ok i ran the ai code review before and im looking at this human review and its much worse and now I wasted two days waiting for it. Company vibecoder/slopcannon is the most oppressed class

Idk, between the heavy reliance on potions, really unclear telegraphing on boss fights, and lack of early build complexity, it really feels quite dull when levelling. It's always easy except the rare moments it feels unfair.

I wanna like the new D4 expansion, but it really feels like a downgrade over base to me in many respects. The new trees feel really inferior, I'm getting bored while constantly respeccing, really feels there's basically zero thought required in building or combat until paragon.

Just snorted shichimi togarashi. Mildly painful, 3/10 numbing, can taste it when you breathe. On balance can't really recommend. Definitely makes you feel something though. On balance, better on fish than as nose candy.

@webdevMason @ouranometrian2 I think this perspective often comes from people in fairly functional marriages. If your partner becomes a spendthrift, or the divorce becomes so acrimonious they go after the lake house you have childhood memories of, but both sunk money into, one wishes they got the prenup.

@ouranometrian2 I don't think they make a lot of sense at all for truly typical people, depending on the state they can have obvious utility for handling inheritances etc. When there are huge income differences it's a really bad idea to try to write them to keep the poor spouse poor
