Farmers feed our cities and put nutritious food on the table each and every day. That's why energy expansion must have guardrails that protect prime agricultural lands. Thanks to the leadership of Drew Spoelstra, President of @OntarioFarms & @RobFlackEML, we have a balanced plan that generates more power, while protecting prime farmland for future generations.

Grateful to know all parties are still at the table - talking, negotiating and bargaining. Roughly $1 billion worth of goods move on these 🇨🇦 tracks every day. Millions of people including employees, farmers & business owners rely on rail infrastructure. thestar.com/business/rail-…

My colleague Senator Mary Robinson and I co-signed a letter to federal ministers regarding the ongoing labour disruption in Canada’s Class I railways. The ability for farmers and the energy industry to transport their products via rail efficiently is essential. Labour disruptions can have severe consequences including food and financial losses, propane shortages, and animal welfare issues. @SenateCA @Agproudmary @CFAFCA #CdnAg #AgMatters #CdnPoli

“Canada’s population forecast to reach 63 million by 2073, number of people over 85 set to triple.” In my lifetime I have seen: - the quality of our healthcare decline - the quality of public education decline - the quality of a University education decline - the quality of our infrastructure decline - entrepreneurship decline - productivity decline - access to homeownership decline - upward mobility decline We are again facing a ‘brain drain.’ Think about the consequences if young, educated people are leaving but our population is growing. (A country of old and uneducated people? How does that work.) Yes, there have been bright lights and surges of optimism and progress along the way. But I almost feel like we need a new vision for this country. Growth for the sake of growth without a plan to scale up access to public eduction, healthcare, University education, our infrastructure and housing will be a disaster. The cracks are already showing. We could bust up the whole dream without a vision of what we want to become and without a plan for how to get there. We need a National Commission on How to Accommodate Growth and Improve Quality of Life. Or something like that. But we need a Plan. We are currently just watching this happen. theglobeandmail.com/canada/article…

The annual #OFAatQP Advocacy Day concluded with an evening reception in the legislative dining room. It was an opportunity to wrap up a full day which included engaging meetings with 34 MPPs. We appreciated the time everyone took to meet with us, learn more #ontag priorities, discuss growth opportunities, and share insights and ideas to collaborate moving forward.

I am co-sponsoring the Right to Repair bill because farmers need to be able to access technical information and parts for their equipment. They need to be able to repair their equipment quickly sometimes and this legislation will help them do that. #OnPoli #agriculture

I enjoyed meeting with Paul Vickers, Brad Snobelen, Tracey Arts, and Angela Cammaert from @OntarioFarms today at Queen's Park. Protecting prime farmland is very important to me, and we discussed how we can make sure Ontario continues to be a great place to farm.

If you are able to use an APP loan in lieu of an operating line, a crop input loan or retail trade credit, this puts about $18K in your pocket at the $250K level. It makes a big difference to your farm bottom line. In Ontario check out @agcreditcorp for the details & application.

Today we announced that the interest-free limit of the Advance Payments Program has been set at $250,000 for the 2024 program year. This will mean improved cash flow and savings for farmers as they head into the planting season. Learn more: tinyurl.com/56rkvasn

Thank you to my colleague senators who voted against the C-234 amendment and voted DOWN the AGFO report! It’s time to vote in favour of the original text of the bill and send it to the @GGCanada for Royal Assent, because #AgricultureMatters.

Leadership is in all of us, u just have to let it out! I have never had somebody tell me that taking a leadership role was the wrong thing to do. U not only help the organization but u become a better person yourself.

Your voice is needed! Together, OFA, CFFO & NFU-O are asking you to personally tell provincial political leaders that farmland must be protected for farming by June 5, 2023. Use our Act Now tool below to read more & communicate your concerns: actnow.ofa.on.ca
