Star Wars and Warhammer 40k get compared a lot in power scaling, but no one ever focuses on how they present their worlds to the viewer. Star Wars laser focuses on a few people and a few worlds, while 40k has for most of it's existence been about tales of random heroes from all over the galaxy. 40k may have narrowed it's focus in the last two editions, but it feels like Star Wars never really learned how to break out of that narrow focus mold. The few times they tried, the writers worked to hammer it back in however they could. Tatooine, Skywalkers, and other legacy characters showing up regardless of whether it works for the story because they can't envision Star Wars without them. While 40k narrowing it's narrative focus was detrimental in late 9th and 10th editions, it leaves it better poised to break out back into that old, superior formula. Novels like Hive, which just released, show that much. Meanwhile Star Wars finally tried it with the Mandalorian and Grogu, and it's too late for anyone to care.
