Your crossword puzzle habit isn't doing what you think it is. "You're going to get really good at crossword puzzles," says Trevor Tellin of @sensei. "But the other areas of life it might not show up in. And that's what we're really after." Focus, memory, and clarity aren't built through isolated exercises. They're the product of how the brain functions across an entire day — and for high performers running on chronically depleted reserves, the foundations are simpler than expected: sleep, Zone 2 cardio, and stress management. The gap between what executives believe is happening with AI adoption and what employees are actually experiencing is staggering — 57% of C-suite leaders say their organizations have widespread AI adoption, but only 26% of managers below them agree. "That's not just a gap," said Michael Domanic of @section__ai "That's a completely different reality." Target built a ChatGPT integration in three weeks during Black Friday. AMEX is developing trust frameworks for AI agents making purchases on your behalf. The word that surfaced again and again was governance — the integrity, transparency, and accountability the next phase of AI is going to demand of everyone deploying it. AI is no longer something happening at the edges of business. The question now is who will be the winners that adopt it thoughtfully. Read all five takeaways from the @Reuters Momentum AI conference: 🔗 hubs.la/Q04gZp6c0 by Caroline Bienfang. ...The conversation continues at Techonomy 26, where the focus turns to what intelligence at scale actually requires from the people building and deploying it, and what it will take to get it right: 🔗 hubs.la/Q04gZdD50 #AI #Reuters #MomentumAi #Techonomy26 #TE26

Michael Schwab had been investing since he was a teenager — but for years, he kept his portfolio and his passions completely separate. That changed in 2012 when his father, Charles Schwab, offered four simple words of advice: invest in what excites you. What followed was wave basin communities, boutique surf resorts, and clean energy infrastructure — including a partnership with @kellyslater that built Surf Ranch, a project that "broke the internet for about a week" when it launched in 2015. "Wealth only matters if it enables long-lasting impact. I want to leave the world a better place — and I want to have fun doing it." Immigrants across skill levels and backgrounds create jobs rather than taking them. They start businesses, attract investment, and generate the social density that makes local economies more resilient and more inventive. The data on crime is perhaps the most immovable fact of all: more immigration correlates with less of it. Wharton professor @profzeke has spent twenty years finding this out — and he makes the case without contempt, with something closer to the sorrow of a man watching an argument he's already won being lost in public for reasons that have nothing to do with evidence. "There is a difference between a real problem and a false solution." Read the full conversation with one of America's leading voices on the economics of immigration: hubs.la/Q04glPRT0 By @jasonashlock #Immigration #Government #Policy

The past 11 years are the 11 warmest years on record — and a new joint U.N. report is mapping exactly what that means for the global food system. From collapsed salmon farms in Chile to wheat losses across India to locust outbreaks in Kyrgyzstan, extreme heat is tearing through every layer of how the world feeds itself. "We're not moving at a speed that is good enough," said Martial Bernoux of the @FAO. "And we have, really, a residual risk that is increasing." But the sharpest critique may be what the report leaves out. "The workers are present in the diagnosis, but they're largely absent in the prescription," said researcher Naia Ormaza Zulueta. "It almost feels like the human dimension is missing." Read the full breakdown of what extreme heat is doing to the global food supply: hubs.la/Q04g7wBM0 #Climate #Health @grist

@BrandonSteiner started with $4,000 in Brooklyn and built a $50 million memorabilia empire — exclusive Yankees rights, a Hall of Fame client roster, and a brand synonymous with trust. Then he lost it all in a forced sale. "At Steiner, I felt like I was in a traffic jam. With @CXSTUFF, I'm on a highway with no red lights." Seven years into his second act, Steiner has built a marketplace solving the problem he identified decades ago: millions of people sitting on authenticated wealth locked inside cardboard boxes, with no reliable way to value it, sell it, or transfer it. In an Arizona courtroom, a 37-year-old Army veteran named Christopher Pelkey forgave the man who killed him — on video, three and a half years after his death. His sister had built an AI avatar of her brother to deliver his own victim impact statement. It is believed to be the first time an AI recreation of a deceased victim has been used in a U.S. courtroom. The global digital legacy market was valued at $13 billion in 2024 and is projected to grow to nearly $56 billion by 2034. But there is always a third party in the room: the developer who built the model, the company that hosts it, and the contract that governs what happens when you stop paying. Researchers call the worst version a "second death" — when the company shutters, raises rates, or changes the terms, and the entity that mattered to you disappears all over again. Just read the terms of service very carefully. Read the full story on AI afterlives and the future of memory: hubs.la/Q04g02rn0 The conversation continues at Techonomy 26, where the focus turns to what intelligence at scale actually requires from the people building and deploying it, and what it will take to get it right: hubs.la/Q04f__Wt0 #AI #Techonomy #ArtificialIntelligence

At @HumanXCo, two prophets looked at the same exponential curve of AI progress and reached opposite conclusions about what to do with it. Ray Kurzweil — who predicted in 1999 that machines would reach human-level intelligence by 2029 — is a strict accelerationist. The positive things, he says, "are going to overcome them." In his framework, that isn't hope. It's a property of the system. @algore sees it differently. "The mistake was not globalization. The mistake was in not preparing for the consequences." He believes a serious hollowing-out of knowledge work is coming — and that public policy is not engaging with it. The real fight in AI is not between optimists and doomers. It's between those who believe the curve solves everything, and those who believe someone has to decide which way it points. Behind every smoothly running workplace is someone keeping track of the details, noticing what needs to happen next, and stepping in before small problems become bigger ones. Administrative professionals connect departments, catch problems before they grow, and make sure nothing slips through the cracks — and their role is only expanding as AI and new tools reshape how work gets done. As one reader put it best: "Call it whatever you want, just make sure people feel seen." Nurses, teachers, and mothers don't share a job title — but they share a mission: to guide us, advocate for us, and keep us moving forward, especially when we're most vulnerable. It's no coincidence that Teacher Appreciation Week, Nurses Week, and Mother's Day all fall within the first two weeks of May. Each recognizes often-unheralded caregivers who hold together our families and communities. Care has a starting point. And when it's given generously, it moves outward — shaping families, communities, and the people we become. Read @jim1800flowers reflection on the caregivers who shape us most: hubs.la/Q04fQmXY0 #ChairmansCorner #Appreciation #Impact

"We don't date — we get married." That's how Greg Stumm, CEO of @AmBeacon, sums up the firm's approach to the elite managers it selects: long-term, all-in, and built on decades of partnership rather than years. The model is simple in theory, hard to execute. Find boutique managers who do one thing exceptionally well, build the right products around them, and deliver institutional-quality strategies to advisors who can't access them on their own. Nearly 40 years in, that philosophy hasn't changed — only the markets it serves have. Mark Cuban doesn't talk like a man easing into a comfortable billionaire retirement. He is irritated by inefficiency, allergic to excuses, and convinced that the biggest systems in America can be improved if you stop admiring them and start challenging them. In healthcare, he believes the system is structured to exploit complexity and misaligned incentives — so he launched Cost Plus Drugs on a radical premise: price transparency. "We don't just sell medications, we sell trust," Cuban said. "Trust equals transparency divided by self-interest." On AI: "Is it the most impactful technology I've ever seen? Nothing comes even close." But he rejects simplistic narratives — both democratization and widening inequality are possible, and likely. How does he want to be remembered? "Good dad. Great guy, who partied like a rock star and f*cked up healthcare." "Travel is the only thing that makes you richer." For Matthew Upchurch, CEO of Virtuoso, that's not a slogan — it's the ethos behind four decades of building one of the world's most influential luxury travel networks. His philosophy is equally simple: "Automate the predictable so that you can humanize the exceptional." In a world where AI can generate itineraries in seconds, what it cannot replicate is trust, chemistry, and the kind of human connection that turns a trip into a memory that grows stronger over time. Treat your leisure time with the same intentionality as your capital — because if you lose money, you can make it back. The time is gone.
