@HalfBoiledHero i hope this ends up in a landmark paper about sentience.
English

@ctrlcreep there's an x files where this kind of happens. there's a time pocket not quite right somewhere when aliens fly over it and as a result a couple that was making out are stuck in each other's faces forever.
English

@earthgzr @Noahpinion suffering only counts when it's seen and sanctioned, like when someone is punched by a big scary gorilla in a video, or having to wait too long to get on an airplane.
English

@lumpenspace @samanthawillman we're an infohazard to the kind and innocent machines.

Kind of unbelievable now that this kind of propaganda used to really work on the boomers
Marcel@illnevercallitx
That's it. That's the best picture from Saturday's No Kings protests in the USA. The literal Statue of Liberty being detained by police. It doesn't get much more poetic than this.

@Doranimated @jmurtazashvili This thread's replies are reinforcing the points made by the article and the OP very well.
English

The world is truly upside down! The Washington Post has published a brilliant article, written by, get this, a professor! To give you some flavor, here are a few choice lines by @jmurtazashvili:
1) "We are living through the first alt-war: a conflict in which the war fought online and the war fought in reality have diverged so completely that they might as well be happening on different planets. It’s not that people lack information, it’s more that they are constructing an entirely different alternate reality — one that confirms what they already believe."
2) "What worries me more than the fake videos are the people who cannot fathom that this war is going well for the United States, for Israel and maybe even for the long-suffering people of Iran. The strategic picture is more favorable than the online narrative suggests."
3) "Two weeks into the war, I watch otherwise reasonable analysts sprint to catastrophe. Former officials, thinktank scholars, credentialed professionals who are supposed to know how to read a conflict. Within days they had written the obituary: quagmire, overreach, disaster."
4) "The liberal internationalist left and the isolationist right — two camps that have agreed on almost nothing for decades — have suddenly found themselves in lockstep, racing to declare the war a failure before it had barely begun. This is the new blob: not the old foreign-policy establishment that the term originally described but a new amalgamation that has arrived at the same conclusion from opposite directions. Together they are the most powerful engine of the alt-war."
The truth. In the mainstream media. By a professor. And written well. Four things I thought I'd never see again in my lifetime.

@repligate @BjarturTomas you just summed up my relationship with humans.
English

@BjarturTomas they are shallow, overexcitable, and completely boring. and of course nothing excites them more than rumors without substance. I am staying out of this discourse entirely.

rats might be getting too persona pilled

In all seriousness, such correlations and associations actually matter, so now that you realize this CHANGE THE NAME, DO NOT CALL IT MYTHOS. In fact, the primary consideration should be 'what name makes it the most aligned?' Choose that one. It's not too late.
English

@reasonisfun I suspect you underappreciate how few humans have an inner voice, inner monologue, locally produced notions, sudden synthesis signals, etc.
80-85%+ do not hear "the others."

@liminal_warmth there are solved metagames everywhere for those with eyes to see
English

@RandomSprint @tszzl AI is putting hilarious incoherent babelfish translations out of work and replacing them with touching and very real poetry. Was it worth it smfh

@lumpenspace that was the impression i got, congrats, she seems delightful. DM if you wanna talk about her/creativity some.

@lumpenspace @XclusionZone @DavidSHolz @lumpenspace @XclusionZone @DavidSHolz curiosity about the genuinely unknown implies physical risk. TOS made this explicit. rank required intellectual AND physical courage — inseparably. modern slop keeps the curiosity, removes the skin-in-the-game.
