The Taliban told me stories from their battles. They would attach some PKM trigger to a piece of comically long string on the side of a mountain. Then when the Americans pass some kid would pull the trigger and run The Americans would spent $500k calling in air strikes, spend an hour bunkered down firing at the mountain. The next day the Taliban would come in and collect $300 worth of scrap metal from the airstrike and sell it for bread and the Americans would claim in their newspaper that they had zero casualties during an engagement with 20 Taliban that they “eliminated”.

Two myths with World Cup squad building are you need to pick the most in form players, and you need to pick the biggest names. You’re hand picking a squad for tournament football with minimal prep. Personalities, specific tactical solutions, and club synergy matters more.

@anon_opin That would be difficult for certain Scottish clubs. Inverness probably has zero people that meet that criteria — I don’t think anyone’s lived upstairs from the drive test centre for 15 years.

The international transfer market has ruined football. We should update the rules and require players to have lived within 10 minutes walk of the ground for at least 15 years before being signed.
