Even in our firearms qualifications we are trained to deescalate, or "make distance." Though people assume ice is just federal police, we are different in the way we train.

There is a reason why ICE/Border Patrol are not supposed to do anything but immigration enforcement, because it takes specialized training for police officers that includes techniques for de-escalating situations, not escalating them. You have police officers that go through several weeks of training at an academy, on-the-job training, annual training, etc. that these ICE/BP officers either don't get, or get very little of because it isn't a common part of their responsibilities. They still have a Use of Force policy, but they don't have the same kind of training on how to deal w/ citizens. Whether you want to accept it or not, police officers are held to a higher standard than other people exactly because of all the training it takes to perform their duties. Qualified immunity can only go so far. When an officer deviates from the protocols they are taught and sign off on, situations change.
