Um so yeah. The Emperor is wearing no clothes. Last few moments good, Matt Damon good. My mom was so excited to see it and kept saying “It has 95% on Rotten Tomatoes” about 45 minutes in she said “It’s about as bad as a movie could be.” More later.

@bendreyfuss I was always going to watch it, but all that the negative reviews have done has made me sure I want to wait until I can get imax tickets to see it (every screen near me sold out so waiting on further dates)

I honestly don’t even know that it’s true that this has hurt the movie. It has probably raised awareness of it which means it has helped it.

I’m watching a pirated version of The Odyssey…so much of this dialog is unbelievably dogshit. If someone told me how bad this was I genuinely would not believe them. It has some moments but anyone who called this a masterpiece is completely grifting.

Look at this Odyssey trailer. 86K likes vs 803K dislikes. The audience has already made it very clear they’re not feeling this movie. But now that critics gave it 98%, suddenly everyone is acting like those massive dislikes don’t exist or don’t matter anymore. This is the same bullshit that always happens. When normal people who actually pay to see movies reject something, but critics (who are almost always bought by the studios) hand out perfect scores, the industry pretends audience opinion is irrelevant. The numbers on the trailer don’t lie. People are already voting with their clicks and they’re not buying what’s being sold. Who else is tired of this “critics loved it so the dislikes don’t count” narrative?

This is the seating chart for The Odyssey at my local 70MM IMAX screen, for a ***2:00 AM showing*** a week after it comes out. It's very funny that a subset of people on this app have deluded themselves into thinking it's going to bomb because of woke.
