Good question. The answer is: because they can’t get elected to dog catcher in Alberta. They’ve been trying for 45 years. At least a dozen separatist parties have contested federal and provincial elections in Alberta since 1980. They’ve only won one seat, in 1982, which they promptly lost. In 2021, at the height of Justin Trudeau’s unpopularity, the separatist Maverick Party got 25,000 votes in all of Western Canada, fewer than 1,000 votes per contested riding. A few months ago, the two separatists who ran against Pierre Poilievre in Crowfoot got 1.7% of the vote between them, a pretty typical result for separatists on federal and provincial ballots since they started their spectacular losing streak circa 1980. So since Albertans keep rejecting them in overwhelming numbers, they’re trying to take over a party that was founded with a commitment to a strong Alberta within a united Canada.

We should thank CNN and @andersoncooper for giving Brian Driscoll—the bench warming acting FBI director for a few months before getting fired for insubordination among other reasons—the hero treatment.
By highlighting Driscoll’s own political motives in defying direct orders and his insistence the FBI was above reproach before Trump took office, CNN offers up another example of how Trump’s DOJ is justified in cleaning house.

So apparently Albertans have a “duty to consult” the Indian bands our very tax dollar support.
Weird, why wasn’t this “duty to consult” required with the forever Canada petition, when the federal government sent billions of our tax dollars to Ukraine and other foreign countries, when billions of our tax dollars were used to subsidize failing battery plants and cricket factories or when they allowed millions of foreigners to invade our country?
Why is this “duty to consult” only applicable in this situation and for oil and gas pipelines?
It’s almost like the “duty to consult” only applies when people want to do something the federal government disagrees with.
