@BenGoldsmith Farmland for centuries. Wetlands for millennia. We don't try and stop the tides, so why on earth do we try to pump the wetlands.

It’s unfortunate; but the farmer is standing in the middle of *a wetland*. The Somerset Levels is meant to flood in winter. Spending a ton of public money pumping water out of a wetland is mad. Better to support farmers’ transition to a more suitable way of farming in a wetland.

Flooded again: Somerset farmer says prevention must come first. ‼️🌧️ 🗣️ “It floods in eight days and takes six weeks to pump out.” READ MORE: ow.ly/oah450Yra0R

Former fighter pilot here. Exactly as predicted: the air defence of Iran has been completely dismantled. The US is now loading jdams - weapons that have no place in a fight between a working modern air defense and fighters. But - It has a very good place if your fighters can operate without real risk of anything but AAA and Manpads - allowing you to stay well above those kind of low tech systems while pinpointing strikes.

I think he just pulls out words he’s heard other people use and thinks that they sound cool. All because I dared to say the defences at Omaha really weren’t exceptional. Definitely hit a nerve 😂

Careful. If a woke British amateur historian sees this, he/she will explain how it was Britain who really prevented Germany from getting a nuke. Not Norway, nor the Americans.

Operation Gunnerside. 83 years ago Today, eleven Norwegian commandos on skis infiltrated and destroyed a Nazi chemical plant developing the Atomic Bomb. Some historians believe this set the Nazis back far enough for the US to develop the Bomb first.

I was glad to be in Glen Affric yesterday when 4 more beavers (Castor fiber) were released into Loch Beinn a'Mheadhoin. This was carried out by Trees for Life in partnership with Forestry & Land Scotland, who manage the NNR there, & Green MSP Ariane Burgess set one beaver free.

@jamesjhistory @Bert_Plumswang Would love more coastal command content around Catalinas (family connection) and Sunderlands. I also assume coastal and bomber commands in Battle of Britain has been covered in an ep?

Even though it's only been a few days since I last did so the 15th September requires another viewing of Battle of Britain doesn't it?
