Gonna be honest everyone’s been attacking Bushra over Kat’s loss but every progressive I know in district voted for her or admitted to me that Kat should’ve dropped out to back her. She was a better candidate with deep roots in district while Kat was seen as a vanity campaign.

@electionsjoe Its Spring Break week in sub 20 degree weather. There were storms all throughout early voting period. They couldnt have picked a worse time to have the Chicago primaries, turnout was relatively low all across the city.

I absolutely would love someone to do an analysis into college campus precincts between states. I bet Swing states get massive increases in turnout every presidential year while students in safe states just keep their home registration.

i hope people's takeaway from this is "we need ranked choice voting in every election everywhere" and not "people need to drop out to consolidate the vote" having a broad range of left leaning candidates is good for democracy actually!!!!

Amiwala entered the race three months after Abughazaleh. The latter got in to challenge Schakowsky; the former got in after Schakowsky decided not to fight a tough primary in her 80s.

Bushra Amiwala is an actual community member and a local star, Kat Abughazaleh moved to the district and decided to run without any history in the community. Kat took the progressive votes that Bushra would have received and we could have had a great new member in Congress.
