@neqyve @OrganizerMemes huge launchpad, he was her first major donor. i don't get the point of arguing something she's acknowledged herself

@abcdleee @OrganizerMemes Her bf is not the reason she outraised her, she clearly outraised her even without the dude. And even without him she would clearly still beat Bushra

@electionsjoe Its Spring Break week in sub 20 degree weather. There were storms all throughout early voting period. They couldnt have picked a worse time to have the Chicago primaries, turnout was relatively low all across the city.

@oneearopen @corncobanalysis @VoteHub Unsurprising since 99% of places will have less progressive landscapes/more consequential elections to stay registered in than here. Or for people who feel more invested, they're upperclassmen and live off campus not counted here

I appreciate AOC being open about how her endorsement process works. Now I can understand why she may or not endorse a particular candidate.

@OrganizerMemes This is what everyone local has been saying from day 1 and it was never believed :/ uphill battle for sure and not easier if the campaign is not gonna take the feedback seriously

@tristanroche @peterawolf Biss confronted Bovino. A mayor and a content creator have different positions to advocate through. All the other top 6 candidates were assaulted at ICE protests too except fine iirc

@peterawolf Ok but you’re trying to reduce her appeal to her looks and I’m saying it’s actually the fact she’s a fighter who actually stands for something. Biss isn’t built like that so we get a bunch of this when it’s time for him to answer (pretty easy) questions

@theemmamont I agree, but ranked choice wouldnlikely not have gotten us Kat in this race. Fine's voters would have mostly gone to Biss over Kat.

@SuperPuppy6432 @dsfence64 @Stewart_2028 Kat had no trust and her campaign did not build any, like small businesses were literally unendorsing her bc of their disrespect using them for video props without actually knowing them

@SuperPuppy6432 @dsfence64 @Stewart_2028 If you actually stopped to be curious about why Kat did not perform well with people who chose to vote with Bushra, mostly Asian and immigrant areas, you'd learn a lot about the district and how she could've improved instead of this reductive take.

People don't understand how crazy the 26% is for Kat ngl Huan Huynh is a local state rep that raised a million dollars and was endorsed by one of the most notable Chicago progressive alders and Asian politicians nationwide Kat got 15 times more votes than him!

@ExpandNATONOW @ThePaliMo @PokiJaciii The voters like her bc of her community work and the trust that's built there... theyd go to other locals next, not Kat

@ThePaliMo @PokiJaciii Tbf she pretty much was. Kat lost by 4-5% last time I looked, and she got around 5-6% of votes last time I looked, which would have been enough to push Kat over the edge to victory.

@frerardie @kferrDC @contentlyshane Yall were not paying attention bc Kat disrespected people so bad that businesses were explicitly not endorsing Kay and instead endorsing Bushra

@T84OplotM @MikeNellis I don't think thats necessarily true, but I think there's a difference. Bushra's voters were based largely in trust and relationship. That wasn't the case for 90% of kat voters- they're voting for progressive policy + online ability + being young, all of which Bushra has

The attacks against Bushra Amiwala on this website are fucking disgusting. You’re not entitled to her votes—and pretending they all would’ve gone to Kat if she dropped out is pure fantasy. That’s not how voters operate.

@ComputerEnjoye1 @daveweigel Because local relationships are more than the vote of a house primary? I know people who love her but voted for who they thought was more likely to win or experienced at this point

@daveweigel No clue why she's getting characterized as some "local star" - she got 5% of the vote!

Amiwala entered the race three months after Abughazaleh. The latter got in to challenge Schakowsky; the former got in after Schakowsky decided not to fight a tough primary in her 80s. Being annoyed that the arriviste candidate is more popular than you - not a great strategy
Joaquín Beltrán Free Palestine@joaquinlife

Bushra Amiwala is an actual community member and a local star, Kat Abughazaleh moved to the district and decided to run without any history in the community. Kat took the progressive votes that Bushra would have received and we could have had a great new member in Congress.

@daveweigel Also not to get into semantics but I really don’t think you can go calling someone who got 5% in a primary a local star

@dj_mackelfresh @sunrisemvmt They're ignoring that kat didn't perform well with Bushra and Mike's voters because she offended them (like the Devon Ave business endorsements of Bushra explicitly over Kat)💀They would not have voted for her regardless
