“Oh I pressed the kill myself button so now you also have to press the kill yourself button to save me from my decision 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺” Just don’t press the god damn kill yourself button???
Tim Urban@waitbutwhy

Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?

@questionableway I can explain it if you truly don’t have the theory of mind for picking red. If everyone picks red no one will die. If some people pick blue, some people will die. As an individual button pusher, you can guarantee your life by pushing red.

@_derekmitchell_ @YIMBYLAND First, “minimum wage violations” is not the same thing as wage theft. They redefined the definition to boost the numbers here Second, the right side of the chart doesn’t come close to counting “all other kinds of theft”. Like it’s so dishonest its almost baffling

There is no coherent belief system in an ideology where it’s ok (encouraged) to microloot public transit, but not ok to microloot public grocery stores.

@YIMBYLAND Wage theft accounts for more than all other kinds of theft combined and is almost never prosecuted Is petty theft an issue? Yes, but focusing attention and resources on it is insane when wage theft goes unpunished despite causing more macroeconomic harm than drug cartels

@wideofthepost half of those examples are theft, and yes those are bad. But no one applies this to private equity because thats not stealing. Thats just a thing you dont like.

austerity is theft@wideofthepost·
Stealing is bad never applies to crypto, or private equity, or Israeli land theft, or wall street's mass evictions in the subprime crisis aftermath, or to resources plundered in illegal foreign wars, or to concepts like time and well being, with mass imprisonment and austerity.

@LinkofSunshine 100% agree. Lethal injection is less humane, sometimes fails and is designed to make a barbaric practice seem sophisticated & humane. We should not have a death penalty but as long as we do, firing squad is the best method

@sebastian_trifa @captgouda24 This is so untrue that its weird to see people say it so confidently. Sure, there is plenty of evidence and research on this but it doesnt even make sense on its face. If we raised the minimum wage to $1000/hour tomorrow, there would obviously be disemployment effects

@captgouda24 Liberals are beyond parody. There is no evidence raising the minimum wage leads to disemployment, but liberals love making armchair arguments about why the poors should have it worse.

I will defend wage theft. It is the evasion of government regulations. On the margin, it prevents disemployment due to minimum wage laws. At the very least, its welfare effect is unclear.
Emma Camp@emmma_camp_

@CathyReisenwitz Wage theft is also bad lol. Unlike shoplifting, I don't see anyone defending it as morally righteous!

@NotPotBol How is that relevant? Pretty much all of the worst people in human history were liked by many. Trump is still loved by a huge number of people. Being liked doesnt make your actions more or less evil

@reset_by_peer Every society has people getting paid to directly cause the deaths of people by denying them healthcare. This is true of every country that has universal healthcare

@fdr_dem This is very telling about the phrase "healthcare is a human right" if this is true, and human rights > property rights, then by definition, government provided healthcare supersedes property rights. Leftist can and will use this phrasing to infringe on your property rights

Denying people healthcare THEY ARE PAYING FOR for no other reason than saving money and doing automatic denials regardless of the issue is ABSOLUTELY theft and murder. Not debating that one.
Can we please just tell the truth@FloodingLong

@GeauxGabrielle Actually, it does mean that. You can say that denial of life saving care is morally evil, but it's not what murder is. The insurance company did not inflict the sickness onto the person. If the insurance company did not exist, the person would still be sick.

@staceyLcook @esaagar If seniors want more welfare, it should be need based. Blanket benefits for seniors overwhelmingly go to the wealthy

Yglesias is correct. The current pervasive frameworks for thinking about these issues don’t allow us to articulate what most of us already know. That’s why THIS was one of the boldest moments in recent television history:

See the reason my article is titled “Dogs aren’t people” is precisely because I believe a lot of errors in dog policy stem precisely from confusing issues related to human children and issues related to non-human canines. slowboring.com/p/dogs-arent-p…
