@BriannaWu @WSJ The issue is that Israel activated the competent, organized anti-regime groups in Iran during the 12 Day War and they got slaughtered when the Americans were not ready to support them. Now there is no one to pull off regime change internally.

According to @WSJ, Trump is talking tough about the war with Iran but privately knows it’s not going well. His “a civilization will die tonight” tweet was stupid macho blustering hoping to threaten Iran into capitulation. That failed. I don’t even understand why he’s trying to negotiate. The goal should be to overthrow the IRGC by giving the people there the tools to overthrow this illegitimate government. I don’t understand what the endgame is. I don’t understand why we’re not giving crates of weapons and all the intelligence in the world to the Iranians tired of ending up in torture dungeons. The IRGC are the ones with their guns. Unless we’re willing to leave American troops on the ground indefinitely - we have to give them the tools liberate themselves.

@ThomasPaineBand I mean… We literally have the NYT story of Netanyahu flying in and holding a glib little presentation. If Netanyahu didn’t talk him into the war, what was he doing in the WH? Just a social call?

I'm a long-time Trump supporter, but the Iran War was a massive blunder. Trump just claimed that "Israel never talked me into the war with Iran..." I think it's very possible that Israel and Netanyahu didn't "talk him into the war", but they could have coerced, blackmailed, threatened him or Trump could have been part of their plan all along. The Optics of Trump's Denial: Trump being forced to deny that Israel pulled us into this war is a really bad look. So many American's believe that Israel is controlling Trump and our government that Trump has to make a public statement of denial. People are waking up to the truth. Trump's recent false statements. Trump has lied and contradicted himself so much regarding this war, why would anyone believe him about not being under Netanyahu's thumb? Trump's lies & contradictions on the Iran war: Lies: Iran’s nuclear sites “totally obliterated” (actually only damaged/set back) Iran’s military “100% destroyed” / navy “gone” / war “won” with total victory Imminent nuclear threat to U.S. homeland Contradictions: War “almost over” / “very close to finishing” vs. need more strikes & troops “No need for allies” vs. criticizing others for not helping “Great progress on deal, possible in days” vs. Iran denies talks Regime change happened / didn’t happen Shifting stories daily. Speculate and give us your theories in the replies! Do you believe that Israel had anything to do with Trump starting this war?

@LisaB4babies @ThomasPaineBand This isn't a court or a debate, everyone gets to be their own arbiter of what they consider in the American interest and a full half of Republicans are now saying this is clearly in the interest of a different country at their expense.

@KathrynPaisner The West Bank cooperates and it just means their land is taken from them slightly slower. Israel, at least their current leadership and a majority of their voting population, doesn't want a two-state either.

If the Palestinians truly wanted a state, they would surrender, disarm, and table a peace agreement proposing reasonable territorial boundaries. They have done none of these things, because they don't really care about having a state. They care about destroying Israel.

This is literal Trump Derangement Syndrome. I understand that Trump is boastful, rude and disrespectful at times, but China is a Marxist-Leninist dictatorship run by a Stalinist
Jostein Hauge@haugejostein

This is a remarkable shift. People in *every single one* of the top US-allied countries now believe it’s better to depend on China than on the US. The global balance of power is clearly tilting away from the US and toward China.

@ChromeBarracuda @MikhailaFuller I mean, akathisia is definitely real. Lots of people get it from SSRIs. I'm more confused how he was blindsided by benzos being so dependence-forming. He studied alcohol extensively and they both play on the GABA receptors, so weird he'd be so unaware.

We figured out that dad has a psych med induced neurological injury, and has been suffering from akathisia. It’s been 6 years since any psych medications. Last summer his symptoms started, after a flare up likely induced by mold (CIRS) and stress. It was complicated by pneumonia and associated sepsis a month later. It’s been horrible. Neurological injuries from psych meds are far more common than people know. I made this video to explain what they are and what akathisia is because they’re not talked about enough, they’re misdiagnosed, nearly impossible to treat, and hidden by the pharmaceutical industry. I don’t plan on making another update about my dad, it stresses my family out, and myself, and there’s nothing more to say about it until things get better. I will be jumping up and down about psych med injury awareness from now on as it’s impacted my health as well, and is devastating. Prayers are appreciated still.

@AttackerU @EllenFantasmic @ThePholosopherX You still want money to work as a mechanism to show what is valuable / scarce. Otherwise you don't know what people want and you run into the old Soviet issues of making a bunch of a type of shoe no one actually wants to wear.

You cannot sustain prosperity by just giving everyone checks. Prosperity comes by way of increasing efficient productivity where people can use less effort to provide more value to others. Individuals have to be productive to increase the wealth, else, it ends up being net consumption followed by a rise in prices to offset the generalized handouts.

@ThePholosopherX Your entire argument falls flat because it fails to recognize the productivity boost and cost decreases from AI and Robotics. A significant part of inflation is goods production not meeting demand.

@higgins6865 @strxwmxn @thedecoderx There will be terror attacks if Israel keeps taking chunks of the West Bank. Hard to ask people not to fight people actively stealing your land in a way considered illegal internationally with whatever means available.

@strxwmxn @thedecoderx Look at what they did with Gaza. Judea and Samaria is infinitely better placed strategically to the point where Israel could not reasonably defend herself. If the palestinians can go, say, 20 years without a terror attack then talks can begin. Until then, absolutely no chance.

If Zionism simply means the right to continued Jewish self-determination in Israel, then I’m 100% a Zionist. If Zionism means expansion, supremacy, and subjugation, then I’m not. Anti-Zionists blur these definitions so they can condemn the second while meaning the former.

@thelaymanstake Do people not understand what UBI is? People are still free to work and make more money if their skills remain valuable post AIs and robots being better at basically everything. This is just ensuring a floor for those whose skills don't.

Here is the question that ends the UBI discussion. So if AI/robotics are going to create such abundance that people don't need to work and everything will be essentially free, then why do we even need UBI? Why can't people privately own and use these tools, as they already do now and control access to this limitless abundance themselves? Why does the government need to be in charge of distributing resources if they are cheaper, and more easily available than ever? This would be like arguing at the beginning of mechanised farming, that because one machine can do the work of 50 men that we need government to control the food stocks and distribute them because we don't all need to be farmers. The last thing cheaper more easily accessible resources demands in government control. UBI is the oligarchs last attempt to control access to technology that has the potential to free billions from their evil clutches.
Elon Musk@elonmusk

Universal HIGH INCOME via checks issued by the Federal government is the best way to deal with unemployment caused by AI. AI/robotics will produce goods & services far in excess of the increase in the money supply, so there will not be inflation.

A conversation yesterday: Her: “Joe, you can’t be so pro-Israel AND be a Democrat. Democrats are rightly turning on Israel. You gotta do the same.” Me: “If that’s true, if I can’t be a Democrat AND be pro-Israel, then I won’t be a Democrat. I love & support the state of Israel. Period. And I won’t abandon that support to benefit myself politically/bcuz that’s where Dem voters are. Nope. Do you want politicians who are principled, or politicians who just follow which way the wind’s blowing?”

@Pro__Trading @Fredrica1313 The issue is that the robots and AI are coming regardless of whether or not we have a plan for the people they displace. You can try to be a luddite and smash them all (you'll likely be killed by a robot), but the point of UBI is to stop those displaced people from dying/rioting.

@Sam_Schulman @ProfDBernstein 2005 was a repositioning from a hard to defend position to an easier one. More settlers moved into the West Bank illegally that year than left Gaza. (Basically all of the ones who left Gaza plus more). They also did it as "formaldehyde" for the Palestinian peace talks.

Gazan youth was given in 2005 100% of Gaza including all Jewish settlements in perpetuity plus goodies and millions galore. Nevertheless they started several wars against Israel in the next two decades, -- and far from your notion that they have sympathy for West Bank Arabs, their first war of extermination was against Fatah officials in Gaza, whole they s'aughtered con brio.

If Israel didn't have the Iron Dome, it would have either invaded Lebanon and Gaza over a decade ago instead of trying to avoid it, or they would have directly gone after Iran, potentially leading to a nuclear confrontation. The idea that having your entire population vulnerable to incessant missile attacks is going to make you less militarily aggressive is insane, and the idea that Israel could have resolved its problems with the explicitly genocidal Hezbollah and Hamas by being more forthcoming is equally insane.
David Weigel@daveweigel

The rationale, explained to me by a Dem who wants to stop funding Iron Dome: The defense system makes Israel more aggressive, confident that it can launch operations without much damage to its own cities. (Most Dems are still at "no offensive weapons, missile shield okay.")

Obama paid $150 Billion to MAYBE pause a bunch of lunatics from blowing up the world. Trump spent $60B to finish that threat forever. To a Panican, this is disastrous.

The war appears to be winding down, which I obviously hope is true. But this war has been a disaster. It will have cost us about $60 billion, loss of life, plus economic & geopolitical damage that could be irreversible. Who benefitted? Think your life will be much different?

@MaxAbrahms @willchamberlain My understanding is that a major reason for Israel’s campaign in Lebanon was the expectation that the US might soon demand a ceasefire to facilitate a deal with Iran. As a result, Israel sought to inflict maximum damage in a short window of time.

Israel’s campaign against Hezbollah helped Trump wind down the Iran war because Iran desperately wants to save Hezbollah. The crushing of Hezbollah emerged as the key vulnerability for Iran. So the opposite of what the dumb pundits said about Israel driving the US to endless war.
