Trying to debate respectfully. If we don't then the hatred which drives US politics awaits.

@BethRigby But you do get why he put him there. Managing the UK / US relationship is completely unlike any historical precedent. And Trump can do immense damage to the British people. That Starmer prioritized that over every instinctive bone in his body just shows his view of „service „

Been wanting to ask this for a while: ‘When I looked at vetting document, I didn’t get why you put him back into power. Surely your instinct was, I don't want this guy in govt? Are you angry at yourself that you maybe didn't follow your instinct?

"I hate the fact that I made that mistake and I dwell on it. I beat myself up about it." Sir Keir Starmer speaks to @BethRigby about his decision to appoint Peter Mandelson as U.S. ambassador. Listen to the interview on #ElectoralDysfunction on Friday👉 podfollow.com/electoraldysfu…

@marcowenjones Don’t know anything about „friends“, but given his delight at cruelty I can make a pretty good guess on the (lack of) relationship with his father.

@sophielouisecc Switzerland has higher immigration as a % than UK. But manages a much higher standard of living. To a large extent that’s because it‘s not full of people exhorting one cohort of people to hate another. Maybe we should try that sometime.

@AllisonPearson Social cohesion is indeed quite difficult when there are some very loud mouthed „commentators „ determined to be as divisive as possible.

Starmer: “We are accelerating our social cohesion plan”. Britain’s Jews will be hugely reassured, I’m sure, by a Prime Minister and a government that performs moral contortions to appease its fast diminishing Muslim client group. How’s that social cohesion going, Keir?

@agallacher26 Well, when inflation and interest rates went up globally at the start of the Ukraine war, Labour said it was the Conservatives fault. That’s despite the US having higher interest rates than us. Works the same now then. Also, Labour increased inflation before Iran.

Labour’s mortgage bombshell is starting to hit hard. When Labour came to office in 2024, they immediately pushed up inflation, increased taxes, and caused unemployment to spiral. With borrowing out of control, bills rising, and the economy in tatters, this is unwelcome.

@TheBeanEyesOpen @AllisonPearson MAD isn’t it ! Makes as much sense as a Judeo- Islamic tradition. Maybe most sense is an Islamic Christian tradition as the two religions that recognize Jesus . Fact is for all of history Jews were the easy target for right wing bigots. Post WWII they need a new target.

@AllisonPearson Easter is the time to celebrate the Resurrection of Christ. Jewish leaders called for the murder of Jesus. They hounded Pilate until he conceded and chose the death of Jesus over a thief. There is no such thing as Judeo-Christian. It’s BS. Read the Bible before posting this shit.

Britain has a major religious festival called Easter, the most important date in the Christian calendar. The civility and success of our country was built on Judeo-Christian values. We will not stay quiet if Easter is erased to appease a minority.

If your Faith feels undermined by chocolate box branding, diverse TV adverts or 8 mins of public prayer at a 2 hour interfaith event, then it isn’t your Faith under attack, it’s your sense of control, your discomfort with difference, and your understanding of what Faith really is

@LukeTryl There is no real path open to a right wing politician who isn't prepared to drive division against Muslims.

There’s a risk to Reform of failing to recognise that most of the public make quite a clear distinction between straight talking (one of the things many like about Farage) and what they will see as unnecessarily rude/nasty or just UnBritish coming from a politician.

'I really wanted to come on in a Reform tartan burka, but apparently I wasn't allowed' 'On day lets do one of these events not livestreamed. We'll do all the naughty stuff' Sarah Pochin says she wants to wear a tartan burka at Reform's Scottish Election launch

The trouble with telling fibs is you need a massive spreadsheet to keep track of all the angles they affect… I have always found it easier to just stick with the truth… actually not always… since I was around 5 or 6.

Interesting old Ch4 clip, where Farage says he had never promoted religious or racial politics. At the time, he was right.

The Geneva Conventions make it clear that attacks may only be directed against military objectives. A civilian object like a block of flats loses its protection only if it is being used to make an "effective contribution to military action."
