@Trace_Cohen Wanting insight is just human. Whether health, finances or enterprise operations, people check dashboards because they want to. I’d guess we go the other way, AI will make it so you can add/curate dashboards on the fly without endless scroll of confusing dashboards from others

The next decade of enterprise software may be less about adding dashboards and more about removing the need to constantly check them.

@jason_kint such a weird feeling growing up in BCS era Because the Bucks look pretty darn good. bad execution in the red zone. but drive for drive, the Bucks look to be able to be dominate in the playoffs. It’s just such a different mindset. Would have been a killer loss 10 years ago

@DKThomp @SeanTrende IIRC it was pretty seasonal based on when the Nile flooded and agriculture was done. So it was done with workers that would have otherwise been idle

for sure, but eg: the khufu pyramid was build in 25 years. that's faster than most nuclear power plants and they did it with an economy a fraction the size (and technological sophistication) of ours, so it might have occupied some insane share of state spend ... right? (have no idea what i'm talking about here to be clear)

Has anybody ever calculated, like, the percent of the Ancient Egyptian economy that was devoted to building tombs? I love this stuff, but it's wild how much economic activity was, for thousands of years, overwhelmingly directed toward building bigger and better death houses

@IvanTheK @conorsen problem is blue chip media only speaking to a tight circle of a similarly minded slice of the population. they haven’t endorsed an R for Pres since it started in 76. I understand thumbs tipping scales arguments, but what is the counter argument for why the endorsement matters?

@conorsen The problem is when the owner puts his/her thumb on the scale of the editorial board, the perceived newsroom credibility takes a hit, even if there are guard rails.

@TheStalwart sports are such a shared experience. people see friends and family, who they used to enjoy watching games with, fall into problematic gambling and it changes the nature of watching the game together - and ultimately the relationship.

Why is it that sports gambling, specifically, has elicited a lot of criticism from people that would otherwise have more laissez faire sympathies?

@Yair_Rosenberg many just don’t get the difference with Jewish peoplehood being a separate thing from the faith-group of Judaism. I think that’s been one of the big surprises to me post Oct 7. Just how misunderstood Jewish identity is in mainstream culture.

They literally tried to replace "Israel" with "Palestine" in a biblical verse. (In this context -- Numbers 24:5 -- "Israel" is more a reference to the Jewish people, not specifically the land, but antisemites vandalizing synagogues are interested in suppressing Judaism, not understanding it.)

Today Park Avenue Synagogue was vandalized. As a former member of this congregation, I am disgusted by this vile antisemitic act. A house of worship is a sanctuary. Defacing it is an attack on all of us.

Sorry but I’m still on it w/ these Gallup results If you showed this chart to Karl Rove in 2004 he’d be ecstatic Looking at this he’d think Ds barely won in 2008 then proceeded to lose every election for the next 16 years

@besttrousers What is the real number? Like, what % of Americans are living the gist of what most people imagine to be living paycheck to paycheck, with high financial stress and extremely limited flexibility for emergencies?

"63% of Americans do not have $500 in the bank to pay for an emergency healthcare bill." This is inaccurate. Median household net worth is $192k, including $8k in checking accounts.
Sen. Bernie Sanders@SenSanders

Last year, the richest 0.05%, those who own at least $100 million in wealth, made a combined profit of $8.5 trillion on their investments that will go untaxed. Meanwhile, 63% of Americans do not have $500 in the bank to pay for an emergency healthcare bill. We need a wealth tax.

New JPPI Poll: There is a slight decrease in "active" support for Israel among respondents was noted. It appears there is a direct connection between maintaining the level of active support and the number of visits to Israel. Those who have lived in or visited Israel more than once are more actively supportive of Israel than others and tend less to change their stance than those who visited Israel only once or have never visited. Note that despite the prominence of reports about Jews engaging in activities that oppose Israeli policy, in our sample there is almost no sign of such activity. Only among those who identified themselves as "very liberal" was there a group of 7% (individual respondents, but this signals an increase of 3% from two weeks ago) who are actively working "against" Israel. The survey was conducted among 696 Jews in the United States.

Telling Jewish people that their concerns for antisemitism are overblown, in their heads, an attempt to victimize themselves further, and a form of hysteria is simply another form of antisemitism that only serves to confirm their legitimate fears.

Content Authenticity Initiative
Today at Adobe MAX, in collaboration with our industry partners and the creative community, we launched a new era for digital content transparency with the Content Credentials icon. "We believe Content Credentials empower a basic right for everyone to understand context and more about a piece of content," writes Andy Parsons, Sr. Director at the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI). "We see a future where consumers will see the icon – a minimalist pin containing the letters CR that can be etched into images and video, providing a transparent view into what changes were made along the way to the media asset — on social platforms, online news sites and digital brand campaigns, and habitually check for Content Credentials just like they look for nutrition labels on food." Now with nearly 2,000 members, the CAI community's growth this year is testament to the shared urgency to bring transparency, safety, and accountability to the content we create and consume online. We're thrilled to welcome recent members CEPIC, Dentsu, Omnicom Groupe, National Geographic Society, National Public Radio, Photoshelter, and Publicis Groupe. Learn more and see how leading brands Leica Camera, Microsoft, Nikon, and Publicis Groupe are integrating Content Credentials in their products at a global scale. 🟡 Read adobe.ly/3RPZiXQ #adobemax #contentcredentials

@ProfSchleich @TheLocalLens this is a great idea! tugs at the most challenging problem in AI (or automation in general). What makes something noteworthy / newsworthy to a human? And more importantly, how do we get a big red arrow saying “this thing here is the important thing you should care about”?

The idea: @thelocallens uses AI to review the minutes and videos of uncovered local meetings — zoning boards, boards of education, etc.— and writes up stories about them, which citizens can read directly and, importantly, journalists can use to identify stories and build upon

Look at this project by two @YaleLawSch students! A lack of media coverage of local government has contributed to lower rates of participation in local elections, less split ticket voting, and higher local borrowing costs. This might provide the beginning of a solution.
