Unpopular opinion among BYU fans: I want Colin Chandler in Provo. He is a knockdown shooter that can also create off the dribble.

@AndySplatz Totally more. I’m just saying that prior to the first jump ball of the season BYU got an enviable ROI. Media coverage, higher ticket prices going forward, increased donor revenue … The return has been massive and will continue to grow. People questioning it don’t invest.

@alpinecasey And I’d argue it was even more. The amount of media attention BYU has received because of it would cost $$$

If Marxists believed their own rhetoric, they would either start a business to create wealth for the poor, or start a commune to share their property with each other. They do neither. Their rhetoric is a cover for envy and resentment.

@gregwrubell This team often felt culturally deficient. Culture is what drives a team to play with high energy at the start of the game. Culture is what results in valuing possessions on offense AND on defense. I hope to start to see a little more of KY’s team culture start coming through.

A few statistical leftovers from last night-- BYU led for only 22 seconds against Texas and spent a great deal of time and energy this season digging into deficits. Last year, BYU trailed at halftime only seven times in 36 games (19% of games). This season, BYU faced a halftime deficit 16 times in 35 games (46% of games). BYU finished the season +15 points in 1st-half scoring, and +265 points in 2nd-half scoring--indeed, BYU was one of the best and most efficient 2nd-half teams in the country. BYU faced double-digit deficits in 12 of its final 16 games, with double-digit leads in only four games over the same span. *** BYU went 20-2 this season when outrebounding the opponent, 3-10 when being out-boarded or tied in rebounds. Texas won the glass game and the paint game. BYU went 18-2 this season with the paint-points advantage, 5-10 without it. *** Injuries depleted BYU's quality depth this season, and it was reflected last night, as BYU had zero bench points against Texas. In bench points per game, BYU went from being ranked 15th last season to 354th this season. In bench minutes percentage, BYU went from 14th last season to 267th this season. Roster composition and AJ Dybantsa's brilliance would dictate a starter-centric approach, but reserve production became a significant challenge when Dawson Baker went down, and an even greater issue after Saunders' injury. Dybantsa played 40+ minutes in six of his final 12 games; Robert Wright III had three 40-minute games down the stretch. *** The skills of Dybantsa and Wright III in particular meant BYU would be more iso-heavy, and the team assist rate came down as a result, but the drop was dramatic, from being ranked 32nd last season to 334th this season. BYU had only six assists v. Texas, the 2nd-lowest total of the season and the eighth game this season with single-digit helpers. BYU had nine or fewer assists in five of its final six games, and had more turnovers than assists five times in the final seven games. *** 3-point shooting wasn't a hallmark of this season's team, but it did dip in the absence of Richie Saunders. BYU made 10+triples 10 times in the first 25 games, then hit double digits 3s only once in the final 10 games (BYU was 8-3 this season with 10+ 3s). In games with Saunders, BYU shot 35.3% from the arc; in games without him, the number was 32.5%. BYU went from being ranked 40th in 3PFG% last season to 161st this season, and from 25th to 176th in 3PFGA rate. BYU's 4-for-22 arc outing v. Texas was its 2nd-lowest 3PFG total of the season and 2nd-lowest 3PFG % (18.2). Interestingly, BYU won at Baylor with its worst 3-point performance (3-for-19, 15.8%)--so 3-point shooting isn't everything, but it's something. *** BYU last night dropped to 11-22 in NCAA tournament openers, 7-15 since the field expanded to 64 teams in 1985. Since 1985, BYU is 5-7 in the first round as a favored seed. Tourney debuts have been a bit painful, but as Garth Brooks sang, "I could have missed the pain, but I'd have had to miss The Dance." If a season has to end with a loss, be happy that it ended in the NCAA tournament, as it has in each of the first two seasons of the Kevin Young era. *** On that note, we'll call it good for 2025-26. I love numbers and stats, and the perspective they bring to the outcomes on the court. Head coach Kevin Young and his staff are cognizant of BYU's statistical/analytical advantages and shortcomings at a much deeper level, and Coach Young is uniquely equipped to synthesize them and adjust accordingly. I look forward to the next iteration of Cougar hoops in 2026-27. Go Cougs!

@gregwrubell North Carolina also had a similar recruiting class to BYU. I think it is also important to mention USC who had a similar class and didn’t make the tournament.

Tough to go out early as a 6 seed again, but BYU was not the only favored seed to go down today. Upset victims on Thursday: 5 seed Wisconsin 6 seed North Carolina 6 seed BYU 7 seed Saint Mary’s 8 seed Ohio State 8 seed Georgia

@cosmosadderall Because Hall thought he should get All Conference money and the program didn’t agree. Virginia paid him that level of money.

This is not a Rob slander post. But I've got questions about why we escorted a pass-first PG intimately familiar with the program out the door, to bring in a score-first PG to pair with our incredibly heliocentric star forward. Roster was somewhat doomed from the start

@jaromjordan This is the interesting thing so many fans and anti-fans are misunderstanding. BYU’s season this year is a common occurrence for the Blue Bloods. A great talent or two in a class gives you a chance to be a great team but there’s work to do.

When BYU and UNC met in an exhibition game we thought that might be a Final Four preview not a double first round exit 6/11 situation. Bummer.

Since there are a lot of uniformed people talking college hoops tonight: 1. BYU did not pay AJ Dybantsa $7 million 2. They had 6 season-ending injuries, including an All-Big 12 guy 3. When somewhat healthy they were 16-1 4. Yes, AJ was "worth it" for BYU despite win/loss record
Brian Drake@DrakeFantasy

BYU paid $7 million to AJ Dybantsa. He led the nation in scoring. Cool. They finished 10th in the Big 12 and were a 6-seed in the NCAA Tournament after losing a key guard to injury. They lost to an 11-seed Texas team that finished 10th in the SEC. Is that NIL $ well spent?

@JacobCHatch The increase in ticket prices for elite seats and the increase in minimum donation to qualify for the seats made the investment in AJ a break even proposition at the start of the season. 😂 IYKYK

The "ROI" talk surrounding AJ Dybantsa & BYU's NIL investment is obviously going to dominate discussion regarding BYU's season. An individual who should/would know told me before this season even began that "no matter the amount BYU is paying AJ, the return will be ten-fold easily in exposure & reach" for BYU. Do with that what you will. Just my two cents of contribution to the convo.

@bdfagan I’ll give you a clue, BYU’s donors are substantially business builders. This was always a long term change. We will invest again.

@CriddleBenjamin He's always done this. Leaves little nuggets at the end of quotes and what not. It's been jabs at BYU for a lot of his time at Utah. Now he apparently has a new target. It's who he is and it's what drives him. And it obviously works for him, so...

Why is Kyle Whittingham taking shots at the Utes?👂
Brice Marich@BriceMarich

#Michigan HC Kyle Whittingham on former five-star prospect and freshman RB Savion Hiter (@5starsavi): "The tailback, Savion Hiter is special. I believe he's going to be a special player. There's a handful of guys that we think in that freshmen class will be real contributors, major contributors for us right away. I didn't have that luxury at Utah very often."

A lot should be said about our injuries. But honestly, a huge reason this season got derailed was Keba Keita completely disappearing. And this game is the pinnacle.
