hmm. revamping my team's roadmap to supporting development of internal tooling via ai. very curious how this all plays out. engineering lead is betting vibe coded software starts collapsing in 1-3 years but i think its possible ai gets good enough to fix old ai garbage code

LITERALLY WHAT I HAVE BEEN SCREAMING ABOUT LATELY "If the CCP integrates near-frontier AI systems quicker and more effectively into China’s economy and the CCP security apparatus, and drives global adoption of subsidized, low-cost AI, then it could secure advantages over democracies that overcome an intelligence deficit."
Anthropic@AnthropicAI

We've published a paper that explains our views on AI competition between the US and China. The US and democratic allies hold the lead in frontier AI today. Read more on what it’ll take to keep that lead: anthropic.com/research/2028-…

@usr_bin_roygbiv Prepared for what? The Internet itself wasn't "processed", it was built on. Even programmers will need years to fully adapt workflows. Nobody is prepared but AI is not a force pressing from outside

Most of the US and EU is so unprepared for AI it's insane. They would be fine if they had already processed the internet, but most people can't even comprehend a friend or relationship with someone in another state as a concept, or a source of information other than school.

@elonmusk Yeah the vast majority of people hate AI, understandable when Dario and Sam keep saying it'll take all jobs and Yud says it'll kill us all

@max_paperclips The product has other features you'd have to invent for yourself. Not that it's hard, but neither is dropbox

except that this isn't remotely the same thing at all, since you can ALREADY run agents in sandboxes with little trimmings for vibecoder retards who can't figure out AWS or Droplets or whatever. Like Modal, or Daytona etc. This is like reinventing Dropbox and slapping "for agents" on it

oh wow, and then you could have something we're calling a "secure" "socket" "shell" into a "virtual private server" Could you all stop reinventing stuff that's existed for decades from first principles and pretending you're innovating
Ishaan Sehgal@ishaansehgal

Your agents die when you close your laptop. We fixed that. Omnara Cloud Sandboxing is live. Close your laptop, the session keeps running in the cloud. Open it back up, you're right where you left off. Close the lid. Keep building.

@codetaur I rewrote all my shell scripts in Rust soon as the models got good and any new scripts are Rust by default unless there's good reason not

I was basically one-shot by AI rewriting something in rust in like june 2024. I bought a little 7 segment display for an arduino, asked claude to port the python library to rust, and it eventually worked. that was the last time I cared about anything other than AI coding.

Hot take: machine learning and AI did more to understand the nature of knowledge, and our relation to reality than 20 centuries of philosophy. I am ready to kind of defend this hill.

@wispem_wantex The Rust version 2/3 more LOC (1M vs 600K), which doesn't bode well for the rewrite

My controversial opinion is that rewriting Bun in Claude+Rust is actually probably fine. Bun is a well designed, thoroughly tested and specified program, and Zig is a lower-level language than Rust. Migrating to Rust is likely easy; just drop the alloc/dealloc etc

I don’t think mass layoffs are an early sign of AI replacing developers. I think companies simply have no other way to adapt their workforce to a rapidly changing environment than by laying off part of it and hiring people who fit the new reality better.

This is why I do not think we will ever "solve coding". There is no such thing as context free, objectively good code. Software engineering is not about learning "the universal pattern(s)" and applying them.
Sebastian Aaltonen@SebAaltonen

@rolandbouman Who is capable of curating github code? Coders can't agree on what is good and what is bad. Some people love deep abstractions, some really hate them. Many enterprise programming practices are extremely unfit for real-time user facing apps (120Hz update rate on phones).

The issue with Yud isnt whether he's right or wrong. He's not even wrong. He's a fiction writer. Which is fine! As long as he is labelled appropriately. Silicon Valley hasn't labelled him appropriately because they lack taste. AI forces the tech world to. rediscover taste, as many in frontier labs have said repeatedly, eg @gdb. Just have better taste, anon. Know who writes fun stories about the future where robot man is magic and who writes research about the emergent properties of large language models. That's my message. Understand the language games you're playing.
Kassandra🌖Popper@foomagemindset

Before Yudkowsky & Bostrom and the AI X-Risk culture they helped father, all accounts of AI takeover were labelled as fiction.
