There has been no real progress since the June 2025 terms. Apple has simply replaced one restrictive regime with another. We urge the @EU_Commission to intervene promptly. European innovation cannot remain hostage to gatekeeper power.

Apple’s latest DMA compliance report is a "compliance mirage," masking a refusal to implement the EU rules. The EC ruled in April 2025 that Apple's fee structure is illegal. "Steering" must be free of charge—yet Apple continues to impose restrictive financial hurdles. 🧵👇

“sir they’ve paid $100 for the Apple Developer account” “good. wait 2 days to confirm their account then reject the app 10 times over the next 20 days. if they make it through take a 30% cut of the revenue and pay them out 2 months later. ban them if they try using Stripe”

@AmazonUK @CMAgovUK “This is not an argument against American tech companies, it is an argument about competition, and the dangers of competitions absence. In fact, courts in the US, have already upheld these principles to the benefit of smaller US tech firms.”

@AmazonUK @CMAgovUK “But if growth is defined by just bringing in big tech, then it’s predictable that how the regulator is going to act. The @CMAgovUK approved voluntary commitments from Apple and Google…smaller tech firms worry that this will delay action on the substantive issue of fees.”

.@JuliaLopezMP on the DMCCA: “But we [the former Tory government] were also alive to the risks that a strong tech sector could pose if not managed correctly. And that’s why we introduced major legislation to shape the digital economy, promoting competition and consumer choice.”

@AmazonUK @SpotifyUK “For Google and Apple’s mobile ecosystems the @CMAgovUK has relied on non-binding commitments, rather than imposing binding conduct requirements. These non-binding commitments have no clear statutory basis under the DMCCA, carrying no legal consequences if breached.”

@AmazonUK @SpotifyUK “The UK Competition Appeal Tribunal, ruled in October 2025 that Apple’s payment restrictions were neither necessary or proportionate for security or privacy purposes. They were designed to eliminate competition, it is as simple as that.”

@AmazonUK @SpotifyUK “It’s estimated that removing these restrictions would release £1.75 billion a year currently taken from UK developers and consumers. Rising to over £4 billion annually by 2029, that could then go back into...the next generation of app businesses built and scaled here.”
