@myhandle's Navigation By Moonlight explored the feminine art of yin - setting up opportunities. Extend that logic to its natural counterpart - the art of yang is acting on opportunities - and you get a noble vision of what it means to be a man, that goes beyond just dating

We assume that frontiers need a PhD and a particle accelerator. The actual frontiers are at the gaps where two self-contained domains cross in unexplored ways. Between the personal fashion and textile engineering. Between improv theater and machine learning

@goblinodds Glad to help! And yeah it's not easy but there is a skill to managing our emotional reaction to these jabs. You can feel contempt/embarrassment for someone throwing the jab without putting yourself in harm's way! That's the difference between dis-identifying and tolerating :)

made a video rambling about understanding "the red pill" in a way i really hadnt' before totally thought i'd be able to trivially edit out all the JUNK in the living room but turns out it's still easier just to organize it irl than fix it in post

@goblinodds Many people don't choose their sports teams either. The choice is how much they choose to interpret an attack on the Chicago Bears as an attack on them. The political version of that is pretty context-dependent.

@goblinodds Yeah, the cognitive tax is the thing we're pointing at. I'd also prefer sewing tutorials that didn't make irrelevant jabs to any category. So the question is: is it less effort to seek out new tutorials, or to shift how I feel about the jabs towards the sports team side?

@goblinodds And yeah you don't have to stick around if you don't want to! But it's often easier to just focus on the sewing itself if you're not worried about random jabs. Finding other people to spend time with will definitely build that sense of security!

@goblinodds You can still keep hanging out with your friends and keep watching your favorite creators. Notice the framing, be very aware of the framing, and leave it at that. You're still a smart, reasonable person despite what the framing says. So are they

@goblinodds People are more afraid of what the values mismatch means to *the relationship* than the mismatch itself. "Is it going to be awkward every time I interact with them?" Everyone thinks the other person is going to cut them off, so they cut them off first. You can just... not do that

@nosilverv Yeah, there's a thought that I had, that the clearest, most effective writing is actually more likely to have no visible feedback to the writer x.com/array_hog/stat…

@sergeantsup There's a corollary to this: the clearest, most effective writing is probably more likely to get no feedback. Real insight doesn't trigger praise at first contact, it takes time to integrate. It'll gradually become a part of them until they can no longer trace the source

I wish I could make everyone understand that we — creatives — are DESPERATE for feedback. Any feedback. The feedback loop SUCKS and it's WONDERFUL whenever the void shouts back. Even if it's harassment.

hmm. tested gemini 3.5 flash on its ability to handle video input and it appeared to be capable of digesting a 3 hour long youtube video but completely hallucinated in response to me asking a question about a segment in the middle
