Today, government leaders & partners launched the national rollout of double-fortified salt with iodine and folic acid (DFS-IoFA) to prevent neural tube defects. Ethiopia has Africa's highest NTD burden — 80 cases per 10,000 births. DFS-IoFA offers a game-changing solution, building on the country's successful salt iodization program that reaches 90%+ of households. @WHOAFRO, @_AfricanUnion , @UNICEF, and @NutritionIntl have come together to jointly convene a 3-day in-person workshop with 20+ countries to support the operationalization of WHO’s Comprehensive Framework and AU’s Strategic Framework for Anemia and thus accelerate the reduction of the anemia burden throughout the life cycle, with particular attention to women and adolescent girls in Africa. The workshop promotes an integrated, multisectoral, and people-centered approach to reduce anemia. 💪🌿

Following a brief recap of yesterday's takeaways from understanding the availability of data to assess the determinants of anaemia and identifying data gaps, country teams worked together to use these findings to assess priority interventions and better understand the needs for governance structures.  Country teams also participated in deep dive sessions highlighting key action areas from @WHO’s Comprehensive Framework for Action on Accelerating Anaemia Reduction and the @_AfricanUnion's Strategic Framework for Anaemia Reduction.
