Something a lot of people don't see. Trump thinks US troops in Germany are there to protect Germany. They're not. They're there because the US needs the bases to be able to carry out US operations beyond the north American continent. Trump doesn't understand this basic fact.

I have not only been to Landstuhl through Ramstein, but I am more than aware of the medical facility- to say the least. Germany does NOT want that facility to go away. The local economy would crash. Further, the U.S. has invested in a new facility there in recent years. If you listen carefully to what Trump said, he talked about TROOPS- not facilities. But I will bet anything there is no need for several other bases in Europe. Additionally, Poland and the U.S. have ALREADY struck a deal on a HUGE airbase that, for all intents, is to be a replacement of the Ramstein facility if needed. Poland is happy as a clam about that. As well, Greece is VERY interested in a new U.S. base on their territory, and the U.S. is planning a revamp of the Morocco base now that Israel and Morocco are at peace via Trump's Abhram accords. So, no, the bases in Germany are actually NOT needed, and it appears if at we are not welcome there, based least on their present political rhetoric, we are free to leave and we probably should. EXCEPT THAT, the German people are ALSO getting tired of their leftist woke nonsense in the German government, and as the new common sense partied make historic gains in recent elections, the tide could change. as such, there is no reason to abandon the bases and move out the equipment. Perhaps Germany will elect a rational person like Kohl was. Perhaps.

Angesichts der Drohungen des amerikanischen Präsidenten, Truppen aus Europa abzuziehen, verfallen einige hier in einen gefährlichen Anti-Amerikanismus. Dies spielt nur Putin und einiger rechter und linker Randparteien in die Hände, die gerne die Spaltung der USA von den Europäern sehen würden. Übrigens ist das gesamte Pentagon und militärische Führung gegen einen Abzug. Der Vorwurf einiger, die Amerikaner würden die Standorte nur zu ihren Zwecken nutzen, ist grundlegend falsch. Sie bringen sich breit in die Verteidigung Europas ein. Das konnte ich an einigen Übungen mit der Air Force und Streitkräften der Nato in Ramstein und auch bei unseren Warfighter-Übungen sehen. Sie binden uns auch tief ein. Nur zusammen sind wir stark und Verteidigungsfähig. Die Europäer haben noch einen langen Weg um auf diesem Level zu sein.
