Hey Jasmine… Black pilot here. I think you missed the plot. Then again, that’s becoming a pattern. I graduated from West Point. I went through Army flight school. I learned to fly the AH-64 Apache. I deployed to combat and flew 55 combat missions over Baghdad. Nobody handed me a cockpit because of my skin color. Nobody lowered the standards for me. Nobody looked at me and said, “Let’s check a diversity box.” That’s what people like you don’t seem to understand. Suggesting that Black pilots, Black engineers, Black doctors, or Black leaders need special preferences to succeed is not empowering, it’s insulting. I didn’t want a different standard. I wanted the same standard. And when you’re flying into combat, the American people don’t care what race the pilot is. They care whether the pilot is qualified. Merit isn’t racist. Excellence isn’t discriminatory. And reducing every achievement to skin color says far more about your worldview than it does about mine.

@elonmusk Universities, and indeed a lot of schools, teach critical thinking i.e. evaluating and questioning what you are taught, and not just accepting it. As a science student, I was repeatedly taught to question what we were taught. I guess, Elon skipped those classes.

The Antikythera mechanism is the most technologically complex object ever found from the ancient world... Dating back to 200-100 BC and called a “clockwork computer,” this small bronze instrument, with over thirty gears hidden behind its dials, precedes any machine of comparable complexity by more than a millennium. This artifact was among wreckage retrieved from a shipwreck off the coast of the Greek island Antikythera in 1901. It was found as one lump, later separated into three main fragments which are now divided into 82 separate fragments after conservation efforts. To use the instrument, you would simply enter a date using a crank, and, when the gears stopped spinning, a wealth of information appear at your fingertips: the positions of the Sun, Moon, planets, and stars, the lunar phase, the dates of upcoming solar eclipses, the speed of the Moon through the sky, and even the dates of the ancient athletic games (similar to our Olympic games).
