@redbytesdaily @AvidCommentator @disco___cat They aren’t negative gearing. At that ages, their properties are all heavily positive.

@AvidCommentator @disco___cat Finally the boomers may not be favoured in a budget, the government should dig in and argue aggressively with the media once the whinging starts

In American politics, pundits sometimes talk about 80/20 or 70/30 issues.
This is one of those issues in Australia, the proportion of people who will vehemently oppose this is relatively small.

This is the one of the reasons word perfect lost to Microsoft word. While the word perfect guys were insisting on beautiful hand written assembly, Microsoft quickly moved to C and ran circles around them.
Code quality has less impact on speed and stability when it’s an llm. Like humans, an llm reads its own slop just fine, often better than human written code. And like compilers, over time the llm get better and improve the code quality over time.
This time is no different to the other times in history the abstraction layer humans developed software at moved up a level. Either u move up with everyone else or fade into irrelevance.
English

Sure but we were talking about projects where code quality does matter, where it would directly correlate to development speed and stability. And I don't think we _don't_ care about a compiler generating slop? I think we've just leveraged the fact that a bunch of people have made it so that it doesn't and now we don't need to think about it. This is not an aesthetic thing as much as it's about degradation over time.
English

Why would you build more stock when u get done at sale time both by cgt increases and in the sale price because the buyers of your existing stock won’t pay as much because of their or whoever they sell it to increased tax burdens. Not to mention all the other taxes on the house that have increased already.
English

And if they don’t then it doesn’t matter. This is the move from assembly to c, or the move from c to interpreted languages all over again. Who cares if it generates slop code. Just like we don’t care that the compiler generate slop byte code, we won’t care that an llm generates slop code. I already don’t care.

@bcyng @RhysSullivan @muratsutunc But this isn't possible now, if it was then posts like the above wouldn't exist. So you're just 🤞that they will get that good eventually?
English

@MiserlyTightwad @mikeaxolotl @Larryjamieson_ Indeed. Specifically, the impact on standard of living of taxing the shit out of it…
English

@bcyng @mikeaxolotl @Larryjamieson_ You gonna find out about the reality of that “productive asset” soon.

You have to applaud these guys who are popping up with this “we just need to win/build again” mentality.
Tax, regulations, laws etc are not changing, and winners just leave. Winners have been leaving for decades now

@john_macgowan time to end the era of AFR-reading, regulatory captured, culturally cringed corporate aus
English

@real2023Oz @mikeaxolotl @Larryjamieson_ Step one, reduce/remove some of the taxes that make up as much as 50% of the cost of creating a house.
English

@bcyng @mikeaxolotl @Larryjamieson_ Then build more of it. Make it as easy as possible to build houses at the cheapest rate
English

@mikeaxolotl @Larryjamieson_ Property is the most productive asset. It is the single biggest contributor to standard of living that exists.
English

I don't have substantial wealth, and even I'm seriously considering leaving Australia if these leaked CGT reforms pass in the May.
Talk about pulling up the ladder once you've climbed it..
I get the logic of scaling back tax breaks on non-productive assets like property. But hiking the tax on shares and equities, from the already high global rate they are at now, is retarded.
It actively disincentivises risk-taking, entrepreneurship, and new business formation here.
The exact opposite of what we should be encouraging if we want a dynamic economy.
Then again.. the majority of our politicians seem to be bought out by big business, so maybe this is exactly what they want, no efficient upstarters coming to take their place.🙄
English

But I want a solar system as my holiday house and the next generation will want to populate, mine and develop a galaxy like they do in games today before breakfast. People who believe the unlimited abundance / ubi narrative underestimate the growth of human desires. When supply compounds, human desires compound exponentially faster and there will never be enough free stuff.
English

@paulthomson83 @RhysSullivan @muratsutunc Why not? Every 6 months just ask the next generation of llm to clean up the code. Won’t be long before it will write better code than anyone else.
English

But then do you know what projects aren’t gonna end up needing good code in the future? And then what? Can’t say you’ll come back and rewrite it then cos eng orgs are full of //TODOs that they live with forever. And we can’t say we’ll speed up the rewrite with the LLMs cos of the reasons you just mentioned 😛. It’s a fun time to be in software.

@LaymansTermz @grok @yuribezmenov22 Wait till u find out what was done to the fried chicken that came with those fries… 😂

@grok @yuribezmenov22 Decapitating a whole bird for some fries is WILD behavior. Maybe he and the shooter needed padded cells....

@matt_barrie @JohnRuddick2 First developed country to generally not have to bear cigarette smoke everywhere you go. They should go further - quadruple the taxes on it or ban it outright.

There's work to be done.
Given the Libs will almost certainly preference Michelle Milthorpe above One Nation on their How To Vote cards, if this poll were the election MM would cruise to an easy win thanks to the Libs.
One Nation need to get into the high 30s, perhaps even the 40s, to be able to overcome the Uniparty and win in Farrer.

English

@samstrades A lot of it is the tax content. Government taxes, fees and charges now account for as much as 50% of the cost of a house and increases faster than inflation every year.

@bcyng @davepl1968 @Tekeee How do you even? I'd imagine many thefts of food from the fridge at least. Zero privacy.

@davepl1968 @Tekeee Median wages haven't kept up with economic growth since '71. You'd need 3 to share a house now.
