I think it’s disgusting the United States charges $100 per person visiting our country to enter a National Park. Embarrassing too!

@1776Redknight @AlexMcBurneyIII @MissJilianne I agree. That way tourists would understand what you really think of us: that we should stay away altogether. That you don’t want to share your land, culture or anything else with foreigners. And don’t insult me by saying that’s not what you meant, because it is…GFYS.

Dear Zimbabweans, things are getting to a head in Zimbabwe. Wispers from the corridors of power have revealed that President @CyrilRamaphosa's visit to Zimbabwe was a result of a clear message delivered to him by President of Mozambique, Daniel Francisco Chapo. Chapo himself had been visited by an emmissary from Zimbabwe 's serving & retired generals who are concerned about the unconstitutional activities around #CAB3 & state capture by unscrupulous tenderprenuers, especially Wicknel Chivhayo, Kudakwashe Tagwirei & Tempter Tungwarara. After being approached by the generals, President Chapo noted the important message and concerns the generals had & promised that the message against the constitutional violations in Zimbabwe could be best delivered to @edmnangagwa by President Ramaphosa, the acting SADC chairperson. So that was the purpose of President Ramaphosa 's visit. This is the message that Zvigananda wanted concealed. The narrative that Ramaphosa had come to assure ED that no coup would topple him is kindergarten propaganda by @wicknellchivayo and @daddyhope whom Chivhayo boasts is in his pocket. Chivhayo provided the leak on Ramaphosa's visit to @daddyhope and he is also responsible for the lie that Ramaphosa's visit was about assuring ED of support against a coup. Dear Zimbabweans, the situation in our country is very tense that even CIO Director General is now living under fear and has to pander to the Zvigananda instruction to tell ED propaganda in his intelligence reports. Zvigananda are recording even casual conversations with top security personnel in search of any indications of resistance to #CAB3. Fellow Zimbabweans might want to know that former CIO DG, Fulton Mangwanya was fired on the basis of a recording of his conversation with Tagwirei in which Mangwanya indicated that #CAB3 was so unpopular among Zimbabweans that going ahead with it had potential to destabilize the country. Such recordings are presented to ED at opportune moments by Zvigananda, especially when his mental faculties are most affected by dementia. The Zvigananda cabal strategically meet ED at his Borrowdale private offices. Chivhayo has actually deployed a team of vapostori who now reside there under the pretext of 'praying for the president'. These monitor who else visits & provide Intel on the mental state of ED. When he is at his weakest, Zvigananda pounce on him and have him approve contracts for them and also make changes in government. ED Branson, Tagwirei & Chivhayo have actually mastered how to manipulate ED's dementia to have people they don't like in government fired or transferred and also have deals & contracts approved during moments when the President 's cognitive faculties are in workshop mode. That is the reason they circle him always and that is the reason they were close by when Ramaphosa visited. ED is now hostage to these criminals and it doesn't look good to the Zimbabwean state. It is one thing capturing the state and it is a whole new level when the state capture involves holding a sitting President hostage. So the recordings are going on. The current DG has already been recorded telling his subordinates that they should be politically correct and tell ED & Zvigananda what they want to hear, not proper Intel from the ground. Now, even the CIO is telling the President propaganda & people like @daddyhope are now very useful in propagating this propaganda through leaks he is given by @wicknellchivayo . But Zimbabweans, don't despair. Your generals are watching the drama closely. SADC has been briefed, if it doesn't act, your generals will.

This is an email I sent earlier today to all employees at Coinbase: Team, Today I’ve made the difficult decision to reduce the size of Coinbase by ~14%. I want to walk you through why we're doing this now, what it means for those affected, and how this positions us for the future. Why now Two forces are converging at the same time. We need to be front footed to respond to both. First, the market. Coinbase is well-capitalized, has diversified revenue streams, and is well-positioned to weather any storm. Crypto is also on the verge of the next wave of adoption, with stablecoins, prediction markets, tokenization, and more taking off. However, our business is still volatile from quarter to quarter. While we've managed through that cyclicality many times before and come out stronger on the other side, we’re currently in a down market and need to adjust our cost structure now so that we emerge from this period leaner, faster, and more efficient for our next phase of growth. Second, AI is changing how we work. Over the past year, I’ve watched engineers use AI to ship in days what used to take a team weeks. Non-technical teams are now shipping production code and many of our workflows are being automated. The pace of what's possible with a small, focused team has changed dramatically, and it's accelerating every day. All of this has led us to an inflection point, not just for Coinbase, but for every company. The biggest risk now is not taking action. We are adjusting early and deliberately to rebuild Coinbase to be lean, fast, and AI-native. We need to return to the speed and focus of our startup founding, with AI at our core. What this means To get there, we are not just reducing headcount and cutting costs, we’re fundamentally changing how we operate: rebuilding Coinbase as an intelligence, with humans around the edge aligning it. What does this mean in practice? - Fewer layers, faster decisions: We are flattening our org structure to 5 layers max below CEO/COO. Layers slow things down and create coordination tax. The future is small, high context teams that can move quickly. Leaders will own much more, with as many as 15+ direct reports. Fewer layers also means a leaner cost structure that is built to perform through all market cycles. - No pure managers: Every leader at Coinbase must also be a strong and active individual contributor. Managers should be like player-coaches, getting their hands dirty alongside their teams. - AI-native pods: We’ll be concentrating around AI-native talent who can manage fleets of agents to drive outsized impact. We’ll also be experimenting with reduced pod sizes, including “one person teams” with engineers, designers, and product managers all in one role. In short: AI is bringing a profound shift in how companies operate, and we’re reshaping Coinbase to lead in this new era. This is a new way of working, and we need to leverage AI across every facet of our jobs. To those who are affected I know there are real people behind these decisions — talented colleagues who have poured themselves into this company and our mission. To those of you who will be leaving: thank you. You’ve helped build Coinbase into what it is today, and I am sincerely grateful for everything you've done. All impacted team members will receive an email to their personal account in the next hour with more information, and an invitation to meet with an HRBP and a senior leader in your organization. Coinbase system access has been removed today. I know this feels sudden and harsh, but it is the only responsible choice given our duty to protect customer information. To those affected, we will be providing a comprehensive package to support you through this transition. US employees will receive a minimum of 16 weeks base pay (plus 2 weeks per year worked), their next equity vest, and 6 months of COBRA. Employees on a work visa will get extra transition support. Those outside of the US will receive similar support, based on local factors and subject to any consultation requirements. Coinbase prides itself on talent density. Our employees are among the most talented people in the world, and I have no doubt that your skills and experience will be highly sought after as you pursue your next chapters. How we move forward To the team that is staying, I know this is a difficult day. We’re saying goodbye to colleagues and friends you've been in the trenches with. But here’s what I want you to know as we move forward together: Over the past 13 years, we have weathered four crypto winters, gone public, and built the most trusted platform in our industry. We’ve made it this far by making hard decisions and by always staying focused on our mission. This time will be no different – nothing has changed about the long term outlook of our company or industry. And most importantly, our mission has never been more important for the world. Increasing economic freedom requires a new financial system, and we’re building it. The Coinbase that emerges from this will be more capable than ever to achieve our mission. Brian

Varakashi you lied that Ramaphosa came to Zimbabwe for a private visit to support President Mnangagwa. But the South African government’s Presidency’s own X page clearly said it was a working visit, meaning it was not leisure or business as usual as you Varakashi purported. Now, what kind of business-unusual working visit do you think happens between a rich country like South Africa and a poverty-stricken neighbor that keeps spilling refugees into South Africa -in such an unscheduled and emergency manner on a Sunday of a long weekend- besides the rich neighbor coming to manage yet another crisis created by the dumb poor neighbor who is about to burn their own house down again, to displace more refugees into the rich country because of the untamed and never ending lust for power of its leaders?

Mzembi Bail Ruling Highlights Judicial Independence. Former Cabinet Minister Walter Walter Mzembi has been granted US$1 000 bail pending judgment in a case in which he is accused of defrauding the Government of US$2 million during his tenure as Tourism and Hospitality Minister. His appearance before the courts, despite his former high office, underscores a fundamental principle, no one is above the law. The handling of the case reflects the independence of Zimbabwe’s judiciary, with legal processes being followed without fear or favour. As President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa @edmnangagwa has consistently stated, corruption has no place in Zimbabwe. Accountability must apply to all, regardless of position or past office. This is what a functioning justice system looks like, measured, lawful, and impartial. @2Mored @Hon_Kasukuwere @JobSikhala1 @matandamoyo @MoJLPA @VanessaMurwira @waltermzembi @MoyoChihota @noto2030

ZIMBABWE WAS NOT A BREADBASKET OF AFRICA, BUT IT WAS SELF-SUFFICIENT. Nobel laureate Paul Krugman popularized the term “zombie idea,” which is also the title of his new book, Arguing with Zombies. This term refers to "ideas that keep being killed by evidence but shambles relentlessly forward, essentially because they suit a political agenda”. One such “zombie idea” in African agriculture is the view that Zimbabwe was a breadbasket of the continent. I keep hearing this from various corners, although evidence shows Zimbabwe was never a breadbasket. Fellow agricultural economist Sifiso Ntombela and I found in an Africa Check essay in 2017 aimed at assessing whether Zimbabwe was ever a bread basket for Africa that it was not. However, we found that Zimbabwe was a self-sufficient food producer until its land reform programme was instituted. In our view, a country should be able to meet its staple food consumption needs and simultaneously command a notable share in exports of the same food commodity to be considered a “bread basket”. An examination of the production data from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization for key staple foods—maize and wheat—shows that Zimbabwe’s production of these commodities never exceeded a 10% contribution to Africa’s output over the past 55 years. In the two decades before Mugabe’s leadership (1960–80), Zimbabwe contributed an average of 6% of Africa’s maize production—almost on par with Nigeria's contribution but lower than Kenya’s contribution of 7%. During that period, the country’s maize production outpaced consumption by an average of 400,000 tonnes a year, making it a net exporter. During the first half of Mugabe’s rule (1980-2000), the country’s maize production contributed a share of 5% to Africa’s output. While it was a net importer in most years, on average, the country remained a net exporter of maize, with a declining maize trade balance. This decline, and the country’s trade balance, worsened following the introduction of Zimbabwe’s fast-track land reform programme in 2001. The country’s share of maize production on the continent then dwindled to an average of 2%. During this period, its maize consumption outpaced production by an average of 550,000 tonnes per annum — turning it into a net importer. The trend is similar for wheat and other major grain commodities as a contribution to Africa’s food system. Fails to fit the idea of the food basket The available data covers three distinct phases in Zimbabwe’s agricultural sector and suggests that the country was self-sufficient before and in the two decades after Mugabe came to power. Even then, Zimbabwe’s maize and wheat output was generally modest and volatile. It wasn’t sufficient to support strong exports to the rest of the continent and world, which failed to fit the idea of a food basket. In the third phase, the country’s maize and wheat production significantly declined, weakening Zimbabwe’s standing in the continent’s food system. Overall, we view Zimbabwe as a self-sufficient food producer before its fast-track land reform programme. However, limited evidence supports the notion that Zimbabwe has ever been “the breadbasket of Africa.” So, this is just a Zombie Idea.
