The international community must take a stand against this massacre being carried out against our people. This people sacrificed their youth to protect you; you too must rise and take the right stance for our people. These attacks must stop!

Seven years later Al-Jawlani, supported by the International community, is freeing ISIS and fighting the Kurds, aided by Turkey. The world is really upside down.

SHE DOES NOT MINCE HER WORDS !! @FranceskAlbs "This genocide could not have happened without the shocking, shocking coverup by the media" Francesca Albanese is a great woman. She tirelessly advocates for people who have no voice. And she is unapologetic and says it in black and white. @DoubleDownNews

Open Letter to Journalistic Institutions, Journalists, and International Media: Condemn the Targeted Killing of Kurdish Journalists On December 19, 2024, the Turkish state deliberately targeted and killed Kurdish journalists Nazım Daştan and Cihan Bilgin in a drone strike while they were covering military assaults in Northern and Eastern Syria. This was not an accident; it was a premeditated attack on truth itself. Nazım and Cihan were not just reporters—they were voices of justice and witnesses to the realities of war. Their work exposed the crimes and propaganda of the Turkish state, challenging lies with undeniable truths. For this, they were targeted and killed. This act is a war crime, a direct assault on journalism, and an attempt to silence those who dare to expose injustice. We urge the global journalistic community to: 1. Condemn these murders and call out the Turkish state’s attack on press freedom. 2. Demand Accountability for this crime through international legal mechanisms. 3. Honor Their Legacy by amplifying their work and defending truth against oppression. Nazım and Cihan died for the truth. Their sacrifice must not be forgotten, and their killers must not escape justice. Let us stand united for freedom, for justice, and for the truth they gave their lives to defend. @CPJMENA @IFJGlobal @RSF_inter @ICFJ @vvjournalisten @globalfreemedia @ECPMF

I spent some time with Cîhan in 2019. She was very funny and kind. Despite the language barrier (from my side) we were able to understand each other and actually laughed a lot together. We discussed a lot about the meaning of journalism. She will be greatly missed.

Heartbreaking news. Two colleagues who fearlessly continued to report from Syria are deliberately killed by a Turkish UAV. Their crime? They wanted to tell the truth about what is happening on the ground. Killing journalists has become the standard for Turkey and so many others.

#Syria: Women Press Freedom is outraged by the Turkish drone strike that killed journalists #JihanBelki and #NazimDashdam near the Tishrin Dam, on the outskirts of Kobani. They were reporting on attacks on the dam when, according to local human rights groups, their vehicle was "directly" targeted. Their driver was also injured in the strike. This tragedy comes amid escalating Turkish attacks in northern and eastern Syria. Jihan Belki is the third woman journalist killed by a Turkish drone strike this year, following the deaths of Gulistan Tara and Hêro Bahadîn in Iraq in August. We strongly condemn this attack and demand an immediate, independent investigation to determine if these journalists were deliberately hit. Purposefully targeting the press in a conflict zone constitutes a war crime. Türkiye must be held accountable for the growing number of Kurdish journalists killed and injured by its drone strikes. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families, colleagues and loved ones of Jihan and Nazim.

22 women in Iran’s Evin Prison are being subjected to sexual abuse during brutal body searches. Their open letter exposes the horrors: humiliation, assault, and dehumanization. They risk torture for speaking out. How much longer will the world ignore their screams? iranintl.com/en/202410074196 @IranIntl_En

But going back to HTS there is a disturbing trend going on in the media. They call the group rebel, trying to highlight HTS cut tied with Al Qaida, and therefore they must be moderate. They are not. We should not be tricked into this discourse. No good can come from radical islam

How things can change in 11 days. The HTS started its offensive on Aleppo and seemed unstoppable. Little more than a week later Bashar Al Assad who had been holding on power for 13 years has gone. It is the end of the Baath regime in Syria after 54 years. Now what’s next?
