A junior associate informed me she has a "hard stop" at 5 PM on Fridays. She said she needs the weekend to protect her peace and maintain her energy. I told her I completely respect her commitment to boundary setting. I then removed her from the M&A deal she'd spent two months diligence-ing. She came to my office on Monday confused as to why her access was revoked. I explained that a closed deal requires momentum, not a pause button. She asked how she was supposed to hit her billable requirement now. I suggested she use all that extra weekend energy to find a new practice area. Peace is a wonderful concept for people who don't practice corporate law. The rest of us find our tranquility in a signed signature page.

You just cannot run a society in which you treat being somewhere indirectly upstream of a legal but suboptimal system with preventable deaths as 'murder', in the very literal sense of 'it makes it understandable, even sympathetic, for someone to execute you in the street'.

Part of the AI triple vibe shift that I described this week is that the AI bubble argument has meaningfully shifted from A) the revenue growth curve looks weak and old chips will lose value too fast; to B) well sure, old chips are retaining value for this inference boom, and the revenue growth curve is ferocious, but it’s being subsidized by below-market token pricing and corporate AI-FOMO Ofc, the latter argument could turn out to be right! The future is a crazy place. But the bubble case has shifted from “the demand doesn’t exist” to “the demand exists but i think it’s illusory” and I think we should pay attention to the evolution of the argument.

I’m sorry, but it’s just, like, I was alive in the 1990s. It was fine. If you were smart and ambitious you could do fine in the United States. It really was fine. Not having a family is not worth any amount of technological progress beyond that baseline. Giving away the country is not worth any amount of technological progress beyond that baseline.
