@Steve_Sailer @lost_nomad__ There's a tradeoff between redundancy and ambiguity in language, much like in digital error correcting codes. If you sprinkle a bunch of gender into a language and require agreement then it reduces ambiguity.

The US meatpacking industry is highly concentrated, with four firms controlling ~85% of beef processing. Antitrust lawsuits and DOJ probes allege price-fixing and collusion, with some settlements, though companies deny wrongdoing and attribute dynamics to supply/demand. Tyson cites cattle shortages and losses for the Lexington closure, with no reports of sale attempts. The video suggests cynical motives to reduce capacity and boost prices, but this is disputed as a business adjustment. Views differ. (347 chars)

This is the wrong way of thinking about it. By this logic, a school shooter is "powerful" because they can kill an entire school. Real power is the power to build, to maintain stability and prosperity. It's not the power to destroy. Anyone can kill. Anyone can bomb, destabilize, spread chaos, set fires, create anarchy. Unfortunately, that's relatively easy. The old America could build, not just kill. That's the America I admire.

The US is so powerful that it could destroy the entire Middle East and it would barely register for most Americans, yet if you listen to geopolitics-pilled people, it's constantly threatened by enemies so fearsome they will somehow destroy the American way of life unless the US wreaks havoc halfway around the world in a place they've never even heard of.

@gen0m1cs Writing something down is just cycling the information through your brain with some muscle action to help you memorize it. I fill sheets of paper with notes and throw them away. Well no I don't... They're sitting on my desk and I'm incapable of throwing them away lol

@DolphinMossad @TaraAnnThieke He said "even that stinker Hitler didn't pick on them for no reason" which is something every Israeli in my building thinks when the shmucks in standstill traffic outside our windows lay on their horns every few minutes.

When I was 19 I found out a Zionist had made a list of every American he could find who had criticized Israel. There were tens of thousands of people on the list w/ reasons given for why they deserved to be labeled an enemy target. I was shocked to find my dad on the list because he had signed an anti-war petition. It is laughable to suggest my father is an anti-semite, but he is strongly anti-war. I, being 19 & extraordinarily naive, contacted the maker of the list to explain this was about war, not anti-semitism, and asked him to take down such a dangerous "enemies" list. He responded cheerfully that I was obviously also an "enemy of Israel" because I was opposed to making "enemy lists" and so he added my name to it and wished death upon me. The next 20 years taught me that wasn't a fringe character - that is contemporary media & political policy. The deliberate mixing of criticism of Israel with antisemitism is the actual revolting bad-faith practice and has no place in a polite, free, or (dare we hope one day) loving society.

@lost_nomad__ What if English-speakers go insanely woke, as happened in 2020? Physicist Freeman Dyson pointed out that the advantage of multiple languages is like the advantages of multiple crops in resisting diseases in the late 1970s. I find it comforting the Japanese don't speak English.

@MarioKrenn6240 @mathematics_inc were people ever mad about hammers? because they produce completely unreadable bytecode proofs. But i suppose they were never powerful enough to write full proofs and "scoop" the math glory, if it's just a lemma then they shouldn't care...

After the apparently amazing announcement by @mathematics_inc on the formalization of a major recent Fields-medal winning theorem, i had no idea how pissed the math-formalization community is. Very worrying discussions by some of the leaders/founders of Lean's mathlib. cc @ChrSzegedy

The videos/pics coming out of Arad and Dimona are kind of insane and should put to rest the moronic idea that Israel was actually laying in ruins as a result of Iranian attacks but we couldn't see it because of censorship. It should but it won't because people are fucking stupid.

Actually, the reason that Healthcare in the United States is unreasonably expensive is because of left-wing laws about healthcare. If Healthcare worked like groceries, it would not be so expensive. You need health care, you go to the doctor, you pay for your health care. If you don't have money, you don't get healthcare. Same as groceries. But leftists wanted everybody to get health care even if they could not pay. This meant that healthcare providers could jack up their prices and the government would be forced to pay using taxpayer dollars. Now, American emergency rooms are packed to the brim with foreigners who don't speak English getting free healthcare that you pay for while people like you cannot afford insurance and the insurance doesn't get you anything anyway. The government should not be involved in healthcare at all. The government does not buy you groceries. It does not pay your rent. It does not buy you new socks when you get holes in them. It should not be buying you Healthcare either.

@liron @amasad Actually I always agreed with that, "Israel has a right to exist" sounds ridiculous, as if before its existence the whole world should have seen that nonexistence as an injustice. "You can't destroy Israel" is more accurate, although it doesn't roll off the tongue as well...

@LauraRbnsn one eastern marriage contract mentions a dowry of silver coins physically sewn into the bride's dress so that they'd stay in her possesion in a separation. a jewish marriage contract during the bar kochba revolt had a clause requiring the groom to pay her ransom if kidnapped.

I've been reading ancient marriage contracts for a manuscript and I think it's really fun to see that a lot of our stereotypes of the ancient world are actually not the whole story. Patriarchal societies, sure. But no one can overcome the power of Girl Dad.
