Last Friday I delivered two sessions at the @SetantaCollege conference. Opening with a keynote on Talent Development Environments - how we design play and environments to support athlete growth. Later ran a skill acquisition workshop on Ecological Dynamics & the Constraints-Led Approach. Great discussions all round.

@ncahill1 @Mike_Quirke @markstkhlm Here is an example of a good environment for foundation players. Yes it should only happen if the environment is good. When it is it can be very beneficial.

Nice clip from @_UKCoaching featuring Arsenal U-10 players & coaches, who share the benefits of using a child-first approach to create an inclusive environment. Some great practice happening in EPL academies.

@brianwdublin @m_brosnan And I think that’s where we get bogged down in the idea man to man v zonal Structures we need ofcourse but to harp back to it, your thinking has to move to a more fluid process away from such rigid thinking

“Winners write the story every year but the part of Kerry’s success that got overlooked was that they had easily the best defensive system of any team in Ireland last year.” It a far stretch to say they easily has the best defence

The zonal defence is dead and individual responsibility is back. There were so many examples this weekend alone of teams trying it and getting cut for goals. Kerry’s system is the only system. Good news for the game, not so good for players. Read: irishnews.com/gaa/gaelic-foo…

@GaelicStatsApp @m_brosnan Would it be an idea that locking onto one man in an ‘x’ type run is ok out the pitch but in the scoring zone it’s easily taken apart with a simple screen?

@m_brosnan @brianwdublin I’m not sure it’s an either or and almost comes down being able to react to make the better decision. If we can coach players to “think systems not structures” this helps them make better real time decisions The good thing is, we will be coaching better all round footballers

@m_brosnan @GaelicStatsApp Whats your take on ‘calling the switch’ vrs ‘staying locked on’ to one player? Does it depend where you at on field in your opinion or what are you seeing teams doing?

@GaelicStatsApp I get your point, but the way they defended in the final was clever. Sat deep/called switches constantly because Donegal didn't carry into contact or shoot from outside. That's why Kerry's tackle count was so low. Wrote about it recently; they were really well-coached

Early pre-season doesn’t have to mean long, boring runs. We mixed aerobic running with small-sided games last week — far better engagement, better intent, better outcome. Same engine work. Better buy-in. #GAA #PreSeason #Coaching #Team #sport

I was at the Performance Analysis Community event/Setanta coaching conference/St Joseph's coaching clinic recently. Few quick takeaways from them here. Nothing groundbreaking, but some excellent presentations anyway. Two-pointers♟️ Prepping scenarios 🧠 Learning from defeat 🔄

@brianwdublin Although the game encourages ‘Speedy Scoring’ the increase in defensive pressure was really notable as well as they tried to stifle attacks at the earliest opportunity 🙌
