Let’s talk about Senator Bernie Moreno (R-OH): Freshman Senator Bernie Moreno was presiding in the chair during the 3 a.m. voice vote that rammed through a partial DHS funding bill. The deal deliberately excluded new resources for ICE and key CBP enforcement. But the “trapped by the gavel” line is a weak procedural excuse that doesn’t hold up well when the senator in question was presiding during a low-attendance, middle-of-the-night unanimous consent request on a high-profile, controversial bill. Senator Mike Lee recently explained in a post that he didn't object because he received a call shortly before 2 a.m. saying a deal had materialized to pay everyone at DHS. He said he "had every reason to believe President Trump and House Republicans were on board" with the "possibly fleeting deal that required immediate action." He added: "Had I been told that neither President Trump nor the House GOP had assented, I would’ve objected immediately." Say we believe him and that Barrasso (as the Whip) intentionally misled him to believe everything was fine with the bill, what's Moreno's excuse? Moreno being in the chair with only a handful of people present gives him more, not less, opportunity to object or demand a recorded vote. Silence = consent in UC procedure. If he truly opposed the carve-out, the moment to say “I object” was right there. Ohio: Hold him accountable. Bypassing the 60 vote cloture threshold in the Senate will not “destroy the institution” of the Senate. But you know what will? Taking a two week Spring vacation while the Department of Homeland Security remains unfunded. Protect the institution. Bypass the filibuster.

At a very minimum, @BasedMikeLee should be going down in the history books for forcing the Senate to tear its own mask off.

Joe Pientka is one of the Russiagate figures whose record was effectively whitewashed by Durham, who portrayed him as getting all teary when he found out that the whole thing was a Hillary Clinton plot. Even if we accept, for argument’s sake, that he genuinely didn’t know this all came from Clinton, the fact remains that he was Peter Strzok’s sidekick and that he was present at key moments when very corrupt things went down He was in London with Strzok meeting the Australian ambassador when it became known that the supposed “official start” of Russiagate was based, at best, on a misunderstanding. But Strzok forged ahead anyway, and Pientka obediently kept his mouth shut. He was also with Strzok at the White House on January 24, 2017, after Comey sent them there to ambush Flynn. Maybe he was totally clueless about what was going on, but even a clueless bystander would have noticed that Flynn was never asked about sanctions, the thing that he was later accused of lying about. Again, Pientka kept his mouth shut. Then, instead of facing consequences, he was quietly moved out of Washington and later resurfaced as a “senior advisor” to Eric Swalwell, which on its own pretty much destroys the idea that he was just an innocent dunce.

Why do I feel like I’m screaming into an abyss—like people still aren’t getting it? Stop blaming Thune like he’s some rogue actor. He’s doing EXACTLY what Senate Republicans put him there to do: stall, sabotage, and run out the clock. This isn’t on THUNE alone. Every single Senator who allows him to stay in leadership is responsible. They hide behind him as the excuse, and he’s more than willing to take the heat because he is McConnell 2.0. Same playbook.
