@74EagleScout76 It’s pretty clear that anything a layperson could identify as intending to evoke the flag counts as the flag for this purpose

@EveningSky6 @normal_jake_ If they made a Total War of 40k I’d totally buy it though. I’ve always kinda liked the idea of 40k but the video games they’ve made for it all kinda suck.

@normal_jake_ I liked Total Warhammer 1 and 2 well enough but I could never get into any 40k games like Space Marine 2 tbh

@SimonAmayaPrice I’m not a lifter by any means but my understanding was that a 225 bench was “healthy adult male who takes lifting somewhat seriously and has been doing it for a few years” level?

@svincenzi @jackofspuds Feels like we’re getting pretty far from the original point that the “waving around 3lb dumbbells” routine is just cardio. If that’s what you want and you enjoy it then knock yourself out, but let’s not pretend it’s strength training because it isn’t

@jackofspuds Roberto Bolle, one of the best dancers of the last decades, never lifted weights. I don't think that many do, either. Lifting partners up, jumping etc., and low body fat, plus genetic talent, are enough for what they show.

@KrisSmith98 I’ve always said stop drawing the lines and just play it back at full speed. If you can’t tell for sure he was offside from watching it at full speed then it was close enough to not make any difference to the game, but at least you get to catch the obvious misses

Everyone gets angry about fractional offsides, but to me there's an obvious issue: *No matter what the offside rule should/shouldn't be, there's always going to be players microscopically beyond that line* 5cm tolerance? Then 5.01cm is offside, so there's always harsh cut-offs.
Premier League Match Centre@PLMatchCentre

#MCIAVL – 90’ VAR OVERTURN VAR checked the referee’s call of goal – and established that Foden was in an offside position and recommended that the goal was disallowed.

@MoggMentum @ReeceLSport Based on save percentage Liverpool should’ve been relegated. Doesn’t make it a meaningful observation though does it

@weshcestlekip @JacobHorsfall_ @JefferyGol37573 Because “should’ve been relegated based on xG” is meaningless. It measures how effectively they create chances relative to their opponents but nothing about how effectively they converted them

@JacobHorsfall_ @JefferyGol37573 Would love for you to elaborate on this. What do you mean by baseline here? And why is it wrong to look at a team’s cumulative xG over the course of a season as was done in the original tweet?

@Unimportanz @BretDevereaux @romanhelmetguy @grok Wait, so the guy dared you to ask Grok if he was wrong, you went away and asked and Grok confirmed he was right and then you proudly posted the response claiming it said the exact opposite? There are a lot of dumbasses in the world but you might be the champ.

This is a great example of how stupid many academics are. κυνώπιδος means ‘shameless.’ But Bret says that’s a bad translation, because people only call themselves κυνώπιδος when expressing shame. But duh! When a person calls themself shameless, they are expressing shame!

The Fair Witness 🌈⚖️🇺🇸
Forgetting that a “short” 100-year journey from Earth to Alpha Centauri could probably be achieved with near-future technology and enough money, I think you’re broadly correct about why we haven’t seen aliens visit Earth in any provable way: without faster-than-light travel — which I personally think is improbable — space is simply too vast for interstellar travel to be practical or worthwhile, even for a hypothetical advanced civilization capable of traveling at a significant fraction of the speed of light. But that still doesn’t explain the silence. Even with our relatively crude tools, we can already see and listen across billions of years of space and time — and we do it at the speed of light. Yet we hear nothing: no radio signals, no obvious technosignatures, no evidence of civilizations reshaping their environments on a detectable scale. And the math behind that silence gets uncomfortable fast. If intelligent life with technology at least as capable as ours evolved on even a tiny fraction of the potentially habitable worlds within, say, 1,000 light-years of Earth in every direction, some of those civilizations should statistically be thousands or even millions of years older than us. The universe is 13.8 billion years old — plenty of time for intelligent life to emerge, develop technology, and send detectable signals into space. Yet we still hear silence. So I think you’re onto something about why we don’t get many visitors: distance and relativistic speed limits may make interstellar travel profoundly impractical beyond the very closest stars. But that alone doesn’t explain why the universe appears so quiet. And that’s where the Great Filter comes in: maybe we don’t hear from intelligent civilizations because, sooner or later, they all die. Given the trajectory of human civilization since the development of nuclear weapons — along with climate destabilization, ecological collapse, and increasingly fragile political systems — it’s not hard to imagine how that could happen. ⏳

I think its more about the gap between top 10 to 20 in the world at anything, and everybody else. To really see the effects of juice maxxing on world records youd have to take guys who were somewhat close without it Some guy whos ranked 1000th or whatever probably isnt breaking records regardless of steroids

@CptBuffaloney @beau_throws It’s not a conspiracy theory, it’s a question. Who is the independent auditor for the event to prove it’s all legit?

@CptBuffaloney @beau_throws Because if it doesn’t succeed in putting up crazy numbers the whole event is a flop. Big incentive for the folks organizing it to cheat so it’s fair to ask if there’s any independent verification

@aitch_bar @mattyglesias And shank is just as good as ribeye if you’re gonna stew it for hours - but if you actually like coffee enough that you don’t cover up the taste with a bunch of other stuff it’s unquestionably better now than it used to be

@mattyglesias "good" coffee, (like "good" alcohol) isnt really that great. folgers isn't really that bad. a big glass, a couple ice cubes, 6 oz of perc/drip coffee and 6 oz whole milk, some sugar and a straw is almost as good as any 8 dollar girlie latte drink

@LoganDobson @razibkhan This is disingenuous and you know it. I’m not against GLP-1s. But the point is, when you go the “traditional” route, it requires establishing the habits of good diet and exercise. The “easy mode” route doesn’t require that.

Sure but who is feeding the polarization (answer: who isn’t 😂). Imagine a co-worker of yours had a different view and expressed that and then you decided to publicly attack said view. Unless this was something previously discussed, that’s gonna make for a potentially awkward situation the next time you see them

It doesn't work like this. Dart has every right to be very public about his support and every other person in the country has every right to judge him loudly for it, good or bad. You guys need to be less soft and have the courage of your convictions one time
Lawrence Tynes@lt4kicks

The locker room is a sacred place because it brings together everyone from all walks of life and beliefs for one common goal. Calling a teammate out publicly for his political views and to get attention is nasty work.
