Liveness rewards for Canton validators ended today. These were canton-network:native paid to validators just for staying online. No usage required. It was just a bootstrapping subsidy. That phase is over. Validators now have to earn CC through real contribution: Run a Featured App or interact with one. Passive participation no longer pays. Combined with CIP-105 locking 70% of Super Validator earnings and CIP-0104 routing Featured App rewards based on real activity, every CC entering circulation now requires real economic activity backing it. Most L1s indefinitely subsidize validators through inflation. Canton just graduated to organic tokenomics. Rising demand. Flatlining supply. The math is what matters. canton-network:native

Protocol Development Fund (FAQ 4/5): Not an incentives program. Not “picking winners.” This is not a token incentive program, and it’s not designed to subsidize app growth. The fund exists to support shared public goods, things the entire network benefits from over time: 🔸 Core protocol R&D 🔸 Developer tooling 🔸 Audits / security hardening 🔸 Reference implementations others can reuse 🔸 Critical ecosystem infrastructure 🔸 In some cases: liquidity seeding, where liquidity is required for early utility (but it’s not “liquidity mining”) Why a fund instead of a single Super Validator allocation? Because a dev fund gives you: ~ More flexible grant structures (RFPs, milestones, audits, long-term maintenance expectations) ~ Cleaner accountability ~ Less reliance on “ad hoc” market-cycle grants ~ It avoids concentrating dilution in one place, the mechanism is designed to be shared across stakeholders

Canton's privacy model works differently than most blockchains. On Canton, transaction data is only visible to the parties involved. The Global Synchronizer ensures atomic settlement across applications without exposing transaction details to uninvolved participants. Participants choose what data to share, with whom, and under what conditions. For regulated financial markets, this is the difference between blockchain infrastructure institutions can actually use and infrastructure they cannot.

Canton is transitioning from Protocol 3.4 to 3.5. The most significant change: Logical Synchronizers. Until now, protocol upgrades required pausing transactions on the network. Logical Synchronizers remove that constraint. The network can now upgrade without halting transaction processing. For validators, fewer disruptions. For builders, no downtime affecting your users. For institutions, continuous operation at the level capital markets expect. A major step forward for uptime and developer experience.
