The thing about the Habs' 2nd line 5on5 troubles is your conclusion has to be: -Kapanen's not a good 5on5 player -Demidov is overhyped & underperformed -Slafkovsky isn't capable of driving play based on the 2nd line with him. "Kapanen isn't very good" is the most comforting
JFresh@JFreshHockey

@DomUn1que @rafael__1331 @politicstcan dom, i'm curious what you make of the fact that kapanen has the worst on-ice 5v5 defensive numbers in the entire league, not just on the habs, since the olympic break?

@DomUn1que @MikeBartner @the_habitant Oh ok I wasn’t sure, his page lists him as 6’2 205 Ib which is big but isn’t huge, but to be fair I don’t really watch the Ducks so I’m not familiar with his play style

Comparing the production of some the leagues current power-forwards in their 21 year old season (began the season at 21 years old and/or played the majority of the season at 21 years old, points prorated over 82 games): Mikko Rantanen: 85 point pace Juraj Slafkovsky: 72 point pace Matthew Tkachuk: 72 point pace Jamie Benn: 67 point pace Matt Boldy: 64 point pace Gabe Landeskog: 59 point pace Brady Tkachuk: 53 point pace Alex Tuch: 39 point pace Matthew Knies: 36 point pace Tom Wilson: 23 point pace Chris Kreider: 11 point pace 👀

@Cweitz99 This is how we’re going to feel about Slaf and Demidov in a few years

Man, I can’t believe I’m saying this. The Canadiens have a guy chasing 50 goals and another chasing 100 points with 9 games left. They’ve lacked superstars for 30 years. We deserve this.

@KeelanShatula @CanadiensMTL They don’t have to simplify it because it’s working and is one of the best power plays in the league thanks in large to Slaf, and it’s not like last year because it’s not one dimensional anymore rather they have 5 players now who can score on the power play

@cecyclonic @CanadiensMTL And you may remember that the Habs pp earlier in the season would have a hard time shooting the puck . They pass it around and look for that perfect play .. it was getting ridiculous for awhile . If they simplified it and had a more conventional pp … pt 1

@KeelanShatula @CanadiensMTL Firstly he’s in a much better position to score on rebounds (like we saw against Detroit) and his presence in the bumper forces defenders to keep a tight formation around him which gives more space for the other to move and lessens the pressure the penalty killers can apply

@cecyclonic @CanadiensMTL Still , Slaf just does not stand in front of the net for the sole purpose of screening the goalie . A lot of teams ( almost all of them ) do have someone that has that role. Big guy that can’t be moved . The more I think of it the better it is

@KeelanShatula @CanadiensMTL Yeah but Slaf has been in that spot the whole season now and he’s still finding ways to score from there, it also doesn’t take away from the rest of the team (Suzuki and Caulfield both have 10 ppg this season)

@cecyclonic @CanadiensMTL We all saw what happened with Laine last year . He got a lot of PP goals but at what cost .. basically iced the rest of the team and once the other teams figured it out .. not so great . Keep them guessing with different looks .

@KeelanShatula @CanadiensMTL Part of what makes him so effective in that slot is his ability to read the play and adjust his position accordingly as well as his quick release, these are things that Arber does not have

@cecyclonic @CanadiensMTL Yes , my gramma could be put in that position with those teammates and get a few goals . You don’t see Slaf creating havoc in front of the net .. he is looking for the fancy pass. Arber would add a new dynamic, more of a Hyman type

@CanadiensMTL I know most ppl will not agree with this and it probably won’t happen ( I didn’t he would play forward though ) but the next step is to put him on PP1 instead of Slaf in the bumper spot .. park him in front of the net and slam in a few goals .

@Podrick2869 @ByronMBader History is littered with players that didn’t fulfill their promise.. Galchenyuk topped out during his age 21 season after building on previous seasons. What’s to say Slaf doesn’t crack under the pressure of Montreal / bad advice from outside persons?

The talk of 'maybe Bedard isn't as good as we thought' while he's having 99th percentile productive seasons for his age... already in the NHL... they'll be fun to look back on in a few years. Reminds me of when MacKinnon was doing the same thing and you heard the same chatter then he went nuclear once he hit 22 and turbo nuclear once he hit his late 20s. Nuclear Bedard is coming... if it's not already here!

@cecyclonic @SNstats That doesn't matter to the math .... A+B= 12. A+C=12. Therefore B=C ...so how can two number that are the same be added together to get an odd number

@SNstats The math ain't mathing ... if Caufield + Slaf = 12 and Caufield + Suzuki = 12 ...then Suzuki=Slaf ... so how do they have an odd number ?
